Job Description

The Production Lead – 1st Shift operates and oversees multiple pieces of production line equipment in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. This role leads the assembly and disassembly of production line equipment, coordinates basic labor arrangements on the line under the guidance of supervisors and managers, and ensures that safety, quality, and production procedures are consistently followed. The Production Lead documents key production data, supports continuous improvement, and provides on-the-job training and guidance to production line employees.

Responsibilities

• Operate multiple pieces of production line equipment across different areas of the facility, depending on shift assignment.
• Lead the assembly and disassembly of production line equipment to support changeovers, cleaning, and maintenance activities.
• Arrange and coordinate labor on food production lines with direction from supervisors and managers to meet production targets.
• Document production downtime, machine setting changes, and materials used during each production run in an accurate and timely manner.
• Train production line employees on proper operation of equipment, standard work practices, and safety and quality procedures.
• Explain production processes clearly and answer questions from production line employees to ensure understanding and adherence to standards.
• Communicate effectively with various levels of leadership regarding production status, issues, and improvement opportunities.
• Follow and enforce company procedures for safety, quality, and production to maintain compliance and consistent performance.
• Support a fast-paced production environment by responding quickly to issues, assisting with line adjustments, and helping maintain steady throughput.
• Assist supervisors and managers with basic supervision tasks on the line, including monitoring performance and helping coordinate breaks and staffing.
• Contribute to a clean and organized work area by following housekeeping standards and supporting sanitation activities as needed.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 2 years of manufacturing production experience within food manufacturing.
• At least 6 months of experience in a leadership role such as team lead or line lead, supervising approximately 10–30 employees.
• Experience working in a fast-paced production environment.
• Ability to operate multiple pieces of production line equipment and adapt to different line areas.
• Ability to lead assembly and disassembly of production line equipment safely and efficiently.
• Ability to accurately document downtime, machine setting changes, and materials used during production runs.
• Strong communication skills to interact effectively with production employees and various levels of leadership.
• Ability to train, coach, and support production line employees on processes, safety, and quality requirements.
• Ability to follow and uphold company procedures for safety, quality, and production.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in the food industry is preferred.
• Experience in general production, machine operation, or manufacturing environments.
• Experience with production supervision or production management responsibilities.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise and coordinate a team in a high-volume setting.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills for documenting production activities.

Work Environment

This role is based in a food manufacturing facility on the 1st shift, with standard hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The position is not a traditional Monday–Friday schedule and typically involves working 6–7 days per week, reflecting a high-demand, fast-paced production environment. You will work on and around production line equipment, participating in machine operation, assembly, and disassembly activities. The facility emphasizes adherence to safety, quality, and production procedures, with structured processes and documentation requirements. As with most food manufacturing settings, you can expect to work on your feet for extended periods and follow standard plant attire and safety gear requirements appropriate for a production floor.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Antonio, TX.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
