The Lead Production position is a hands-on leadership role that supports the Production Supervisor in coordinating daily production activities. The Lead serves as an additional set of eyes on the production floor, helping identify issues early, keep work organized and moving, and provide direction to production team members when needed.
This position works closely with the Production Supervisor and production team to maintain quality, productivity, organization, and accountability. The Production Supervisor retains overall responsibility for production scheduling, management decisions, and employee performance.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations
- Assist the Production Supervisor with daily production planning, priorities, and resource needs.
- Monitor production progress and identify potential delays, material shortages, order issues, or other obstacles early.
- Review production orders for accuracy and completeness and help ensure materials are available.
- Receive, organize, and maintain production materials and assist with year-end inventory.
- Assist with building and shipping products when production needs additional support.
- Help maintain accurate, organized, and efficient production workflows.
- Identify opportunities to improve production processes, organization, and efficiency.
Leadership & Team Support
- Provide clear direction to production team members regarding assigned work and priorities.
- Follow up to ensure work is completed accurately and on time.
- Lead by example in productivity, quality, cleanliness, organization, and professionalism.
- Assist with training new production employees once fully trained in the position.
- Address routine production issues and escalate employee performance or disciplinary concerns to the Production Supervisor.
- Take ownership of day-to-day production activities and help establish clear standards for quality, organization, and productivity.
Quality & Process
- Understand and follow established quality procedures for both manufacturing and shipping.
- Understand and reinforce production checklists, work instructions, and quality requirements.
- Identify quality issues and communicate concerns to the Production Supervisor.
- Help ensure work is completed correctly before moving to the next stage or shipping.
ISO, Documentation & Safety
- Receive training and assist with ISO 17025-related activities as needed.
- Assist with production documentation and recordkeeping as responsibilities develop.
- Follow company safety procedures and safe material-handling practices.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe production environment.
Qualifications
- Production or manufacturing experience preferred.
- Self-directed and proactive, with the ability to take ownership, provide direction to others, and follow through to ensure work gets completed without waiting for constant direction.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable providing direction to coworkers and following up on assigned work.
- Good judgment and the ability to determine when issues can be resolved independently and when they should be escalated to the Production Supervisor.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to learn Sonicu's equipment, processes, quality requirements, and ISO 17025 procedures.
- Ability and willingness to remain actively involved in hands-on production and step in to build or ship product when workload, staffing, or production demands require it.
- Ability to safely lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Dependable, professional, and willing to step in wherever production needs support.
