    Job Description

At Moran Iron Works, we value people as individuals—not as “workers” or “staff.” We create goals and plans for professional and personal growth, recognizing that not everyone is the same, and that there’s greatness in differences.
We believe our company’s success is a direct result of our passion for doing great work. We take on the responsibility and accountability to do what it takes to have our customers be more than satisfied with their fabrication orders. When our clients make a purchase order, they know they’re getting the professionalism, experience, knowledge, and skill Moran Iron Works is known for.

To help maintain this high-performing culture and drive our future growth, we are seeking a dynamic and strategic Assistant to the Production Manager.

    Job Purpose
The Assistant to the Production Manager ensures daily productivity standards are met, workflows run smoothly, and resources are allocated effectively across our manufacturing and fabrication operations.

    Key Responsibilities
    Timekeeping, Scheduling & Payroll Compliance
    • Time Clock Auditing: Audit daily time clocks every morning to catch missed punches, correct clock-in discrepancies, and flag chronic tardiness before production bottlenecks happen.
    • Production-Minded Scheduling: Manage dynamic shift scheduling and frontline staff assignments; learn to align certified trades (like TIG/MIG welders and machine operators) with specific fabrication lines based on daily project deadlines.
    • Capacity & Time-Off Management: Review and approve employee time-off requests using strict guardrails so shop operations never run short-staffed.
    • Payroll Pipeline Prep: Audit and clean all overtime hours, shift premiums, and vacation logs to ensure 100% accuracy before handing data off for payroll distribution.
    Shop Floor Support & Logistics
    • Blueprint & Work Order Routing: Partner with Project Management to organize, print, and distribute physical work orders, job travelers, and blueprints to the appropriate welding bays and fabrication stations.
    • Inventory & Purchasing Support: Perform weekly cycle counts of raw materials, sheet metal, structural steel, and welding consumables (wires, rods, shielding gas tanks); collaborate directly with Purchasing to reorder when materials run low.
    • Tool Crib & Maintenance Logging: Work closely with "the Crib" to log and update routine maintenance, calibration schedules, and repair histories for CNC machines, press brakes, and welding rigs.
    • Shipping Documentation: Coordinate with Project Management and internal staff to prepare bills of lading (BOLs), packing lists, and freight scheduling for finished assemblies leaving the facility.
    Training & Compliance Tracking
    • Employee Training Coordination: Partner with HR and Purchasing to coordinate employee training schedules, tracking, and travel/attendance logistics.
    • Welder Cert Tracking: Maintain an updated file of welder certifications (AWS/ASME) and continuity logs to ensure the shop stays fully compliant for upcoming audits.
    Qualifications & Experience
    • High School Diploma or GED (Minimum requirement; what matters most to us is your actual hands-on experience and capability).
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with intermediate to advanced skills in Excel.
    • Strong multitasking and organizational skills.
    • High attention to detail with numbers, schedules, and compliance files.
    • Adaptable team player with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
    Preferred
    • Prior experience working within a manufacturing, welding, or heavy fabrication environment.
    Salary & Benefits
    • Compensation: Starts at $20.00/hour (commensurate with experience).
    • Insurance: Comprehensive Health, Vision, Dental, and Life insurance packages.
    • Retirement: 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match.
    • Bonuses: Quarterly profit-sharing opportunities.
    • Perks: Annual clothing allowance.
