Job Description

Responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and productive operation of the plant during an assigned shift. This role provides leadership in Safety, Quality, Production, Training, Employee Engagement, and Cost Control while fostering a positive, collaborative, and team-oriented work environment.

Job Responsibilities

Safety, Compliance & Environmental Oversight
Ensure safe work practices are consistently followed throughout the plant and immediately address unsafe conditions or behaviors.
Communicate safety concerns, incidents, and corrective actions to appropriate leadership.
Conduct required safety and operational inspections, including propane storage areas, open-top areas, odor-control systems, and outside operations.
Monitor noise levels and outdoor activities to minimize impact on surrounding residential areas.
Ensure all required safety logs, reports, inspections, and compliance documentation are completed accurately and on time.
Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement throughout the plant.
Production & Operations Management
Oversee daily plant operations during the assigned shift to ensure production, quality, efficiency, and operational goals are achieved.
Review staffing levels against production schedules and adjust assignments based on business needs, employee skill sets, and safety requirements.
Monitor production performance and provide direction, support, and corrective action when goals or expectations are not being met.
Partner closely with Group Leaders and Unit Leaders to maintain efficient workflow, productivity, and operational continuity.
Drive cost control by improving quality, productivity, efficiency, equipment utilization, and downtime performance.
Provide supervisory and leadership coverage as needed to maintain effective plant operations.
Employee Leadership & Development
Foster a positive, professional work environment that promotes open communication, teamwork, accountability, and employee engagement.
Meet with new employees and trainers to establish performance expectations, support onboarding, and encourage effective communication.
Monitor employee training and development progress and provide coaching, feedback, and follow-up as needed.
Identify employees with potential for career advancement and partner with Group Leaders and Unit Leaders to support their professional development.
Monitor attendance, scheduling, and staffing levels; identify potential staffing challenges and provide forecasts and recommendations to leadership.
Support Group Leaders with employee coaching, performance management, corrective action, and disciplinary matters as needed.
Conduct plant-wide and department meetings to communicate important information, address concerns, and strengthen teamwork.
Quality & Performance Management
Monitor Group Leader performance throughout the shift and ensure production, quality, and operational standards are consistently maintained.
Provide coaching, direction, and accountability when performance expectations are not achieved.
Reinforce established quality standards, operating procedures, and production processes across the team.
Identify performance gaps and work with leadership to implement effective corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
Communication & Reporting
Prepare and distribute comprehensive end-of-shift reports to appropriate leadership covering:Staffing and attendance
Safety concerns and incidents
Quality performance
Production results
Operational issues and corrective actions
Other information critical to plant operations
Maintain clear, timely, and consistent communication with Production, Quality, Talent, Shipping, Procurement, and Site Management teams.
Distribute new forklift inspection logs on a weekly basis and ensure required inspections are completed.
Maintain accurate operational records, reports, logs, and documentation in accordance with company requirements.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Business, Operations, or a related field OR equivalent manufacturing leadership experience.
Previous supervisory or management experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, coach, and develop employees.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Computer proficient with the ability to learn and utilize manufacturing and business software systems.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
Strong commitment to workplace safety, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement.
Must demonstrate strong leadership capabilities through professional references and prior experience.
