Job description

Production Manager - Transformers
Location Onsite, Indiantown, Florida (Mon-Fri)
Reports to Director of Manufacturing (or VP/GM, depending on structure)
Position overview The Production Manager - Transformers provides hands-on leadership of day-to-day transformer production activities, including core manufacturing, winding, final assembly, and QA/QC. The role focuses on delivering safe, efficient, on-time production, while driving continuous improvement, quality, and cost control. The Production Manager partners with Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, and Supply Chain to meet current and future production needs and to scale operations responsibly.
Key responsibilities
• Operational leadership: Manage daily production activities across core manufacturing, winding, autoclave operations, assembly, and testing to meet production plans.
• Safety and compliance: Promote a safe work environment; ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulatory requirements; participate in safety improvement initiatives.
• Production planning and scheduling: Translate demand forecasts into short- to mid-term production schedules; manage material flow and labor capacity to meet commitments.
• Process optimization: Identify and implement process improvements to reduce cycle time, waste, and variability; apply lean principles where appropriate.
• Quality and QA/QC collaboration: Work with QA/QC to ensure product quality and lead immediate containment and escalation for non-conformances.
• Maintenance coordination: Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure preventive maintenance activities support uptime and reliability.
• Performance tracking: Monitor daily/weekly production metrics (throughput, yield, scrap, downtime) and take corrective actions as needed.
• Workforce and coaching: Supervise production supervisors and shop floor staff; provide coaching, performance feedback, and development opportunities.
• Inventory and material control: Collaborate with Supply Chain to manage material availability and minimize stockouts or excess inventory.
• Problem solving: Lead root-cause analysis for quality or process issues and implement corrective actions (CAPA) with follow-up.
• Reporting: Provide regular status updates to the manufacturing leadership team on production performance, risks, and recovery plans.
Required qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field; or 6+ years of relevant experience with progression into supervisory or manager-level roles.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in transformer manufacturing or a closely related electrical/electronic manufacturing environment, including exposure to transformer assembly, winding, autoclave operations, testing, and QA/QC.
• Proven track record in leading manufacturing operations at a supervisor/manager level; experience with scaling production and implementing process improvements is a plus.
• Strong people-management skills with demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and motivate a diverse shop floor team.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills; ability to engage with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
• Basic financial acumen: ability to interpret production cost data and contribute to cost-control efforts.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance; working knowledge of ISO standards relevant to transformer manufacturing is a plus.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with competing priorities.
Preferred qualifications
• Associate degree plus relevant certifications, or a Bachelor's degree with coursework in operations or manufacturing management.
• Experience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience with MES/ERP systems and basic data analytics for shop floor optimization.
• Familiarity with one or more transformer manufacturing processes (core manufacturing, winding, autoclave, testing).
Key performance indicators (KPIs)
• Production plan adherence and schedule reliability
• Throughput, yield, and scrap rates
• First-pass quality and defect containment
• Downtime and maintenance effectiveness
• On-time raw material availability and minimal stockouts
• Safety metrics (TRIR/LTI)
• CAPA closure rate and corrective actions implemented
• Employee engagement and supervisor/line leadership effectiveness
