Job Description

Assists Plant Manager in directing production, distribution, and operations by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Principal Responsibilities:

• Implements manufacturing operations business plans to include all program requirements, employee safety, environmental compliance, image, labor hours, cycle production costs, and capital improvements.
• Ensures all established costs, quality, and delivery commitments are met.
• Obtains data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered.
• Provides guidance to the development of a manufacturing plan including personnel requirements, material needs, subcontract requirements, facility needs, and tooling and equipment needs and maintenance requirements.
• Coordinates manufacturing activities with all other functions of the organization and suppliers to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.
• Performs administrative activities associated with the effective management of operations including compiling, storing, and retrieving production data for reports.
• Assists with training and ensuring all assigned employees are aware of and comply with company, government, and customer policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Develops employees to maximize their potential.
• Works with plant manager to establish budget and reviews budget on an ongoing basis.
• Participates and contributes to company safety program.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Management duties include supervision of exempt and/or non-exempt staff. This includes but is not limited to:

• Conducting performance evaluations and improvement plans
• Approving paid time-off (PTO)
• Assigning or delegating work
• Providing on-the-job training
• Giving guidance to staff
• Taking disciplinary action
• Interviewing candidates for open positions

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelors or four to ten years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience: Supervisory experience in wood products and other manufacturing environments.
• License/Certification: N/A

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge and practical experience of lean manufacturing methods
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
• General experience in manufacturing, quality control, safety, and production processes
• Possess strong Management, Planning, Leadership, and Communication Skills and Human relation skills - coaching, team building, and conflict resolution
• Strong ability to manage multiple demands, set priorities, identify and address problems, meet deadlines, and manage plant safety orientation
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
• To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of email, spreadsheet software, database software, word processing software, and presentation software.
