Production Operative - Alpha Weekend Shift

Overview of the role

The Production Operative will be required to weigh fill and press Squib Cartridges/manufacture and preparation for Chaff products/flare assembly/MTV pellet pressing and or other processes required for Chaff, pyrotechnic flare production, MTV, Spectral, Naval & Phosphorus products.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all process instructions, risk assessments and safety procedures.
  • Meet daily production targets with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Comply with all health and safety requirements, including wearing full PPE and RPE for process activities (cotton underwear, proban top and long johns, flame-resistant boiler suit, safety footwear, balaclava, mask, leather apron, gloves, silver suit and aluminised apron.
  • Perform quality checks as directed and maintain high housekeeping standards.
  • Record production data accurately using templates and mobile devices.
  • Report near misses, accidents and incidents promptly.
  • Participate in shift meetings for priorities and safety updates.
  • Handle pyrotechnic materials safely in line with compliance requirements.
  • Complete CCM induction, training modules and adhere to Code of Conduct.
  • Communicate in English across all work areas.
  • Be flexible and multi-skilled to support production needs.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and/or Experience

  • Ability to wear full PPE/RPE for process activities.
  • Basic understanding of safety documentation (Process Instructions, Risk Assessments, COSHH, Manual Handling).
  • Strong written and spoken English skills.
  • Physically able to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Compliance with safety standards, including Drugs and Alcohol testing.
  • Experience following Process Instructions and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Legal right to work in the UK.
  • Ability to pass BPSS checks, including DBS clearance.
  • Basic IT proficiency, including the ability to use mobile devices and production systems.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills and/or Experience

  • Familiarity with quality control standards and inspection techniques
  • Basic aptitude for minor troubleshooting
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Problem-solving ability and reporting
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement principles
  • Previous experience handling chemicals or hazardous materials

This role will be worked over 3 days, working 32 hours per week, Friday 15:00-23:30, Saturday and Sunday 11:00-23:30. Flexibility in this role is critical to the success of supporting the team. The Production Operative role will be temporary with the possibility of going permanent after 12 weeks.

The successful candidate will receive a salary of £22,380.80 - £25,425.92 depending on the length of service already held within the business, you will also receive a £100 per month for wearing an oxygen fed mask, plus applicable shift premium.
