Studio Theatre regularly hires part-time technicians and production staff to support our shows throughout the season. If you have experience in theatrical production and are interested in on-call or project-based work, we invite you to submit your résumé for consideration.

Listed below are job descriptions for Studio production roles. All roles require the following core competencies:

Backstage crew

Reports to: Assistant Production Manager

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support thebackstageneeds of the show
  • Work through-out the tech process to learn backstage track
  • Uphold safe practices andmaintaina safe working environment
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Execute duties andprojects asassigned
  • Skills in Stage Management, Wardrobe, and/or Scenic Shifts a plus
  • Professional theatre or equivalent academic experience a plus
  • Ability to lift and maneuver 50lbsrepeatedly, alone or withassistance
  • Ability to crouch, twist, bend, stoop, climb stairs and ladders, stand and sit for extended periods of time, reach above, below and at neck level, work at heights above the floor
CARPENTER

Reports to: Technical Director

Key Responsibilities:
  • Construction, installation, and repair (if necessary) of scenic elements for all productions
  • Load-in and strike of scenery
  • Uphold safe practices andmaintaina safe working environment
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Execute duties andprojects asassigned
  • Skills in wood construction, metalworkingand rigging
  • Hydraulic, pneumatic or automation experience a plus
  • Professional theatre or equivalent academic experience a plus
  • Ability to lift and maneuver 50lbsrepeatedly, alone or withassistance
  • Ability to crouch, twist, bend, stoop, climb stairs and ladders, stand and sit for extended periods of time, reach above, below and at neck level, work at heights above the floor
Scenic Painter

Reports to: Technical Director

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prep, base, and detail paint scenic elements
  • Fill Scenic Seams and blemishes
  • Seal and prep stage flooring for use
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Execute duties andprojects asassigned
  • Skills in scenic painting, texturing, and distressing.
  • Color matching a plus
  • Professional theatre or equivalent academic experience a plus
  • Ability to lift and maneuver 50lbsrepeatedly, alone or withassistance
  • Ability to crouch, twist, bend, stoop, climb stairs and ladders, stand and sit for extended periods of time, reach above, below and at neck level, work at heights above the floor


Stitcher

Reports to: Costume Shop Manager

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assistcostume departmentin fitting, stitching, or other assigned costume duties
  • Maintain and altercostumes asassigned
  • Assistwith inventory and maintenance of workroom supplies and equipment, as time permits
  • Uphold safe practices andmaintaina safe working environment
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience in machine and hand sewing techniques
  • Experience in dressmaking, tailoring and/or cutting skills
  • Proficiencyin commercial and industrial sewing machine operation
  • Excellent garment construction skills
  • Experience in a professional costume shop a plus
  • Openness to learning new techniques


Electrician and Light Board Operator

Reports to: Lighting and Sound Supervisor

Key Responsibilities:
  • Hang and focus lighting elements for productions
  • Serve as light board operator (EOS Family Consoles) for performances
  • Uphold safe practices andmaintaina safe working environment
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proficiencywith ETC Eos Family of consoles, data, DMX devices and moving lightsa plus
  • Ability to read and interpret light plots and other relevant paperworka plus
  • Comfort working at heights such as on catwalks,laddersand lifts
Audio Engineers/Sound Board Ops and Microphone Technicians

Reports to: Lighting and Sound Supervisor

Key Responsibilities:
  • AssistLighting and Sound Supervisorwith implementation of audio requirements for all productions, events, and rentals
  • Maintenance of department inventory
  • Serve as sound board operator for performances (as needed)
  • Uphold safe practices andmaintaina safe working environment


Skills & Qualifications:
  • Ability to patch, troubleshoot, and run sound systems
  • Familiarity with large format digital (preferably Yamaha) and analog consoles
  • Live mixing experience with musicals as well as musical acts
  • Proficiencywith programmingQLab, digital networking, Dante interface systems, and MIDI
  • Understanding of theatrical rigging of loudspeakers
  • Knowledge of recording techniques and recording platforms
  • Proficiencywith soldering, basic electronic repairs, cable building, and simple woodworking
Video Engineer and Board Operators

Reports to: Lighting and Sound Supervisor

Key Responsibilities:
  • Projections in productions - interfacing with the designer about needs, installing and supporting the projection system,possible programmingof system during tech, andpossible runningof the system for performances
  • Rentals and Events - working closely with the Rentals Department to set up and support any video needs for rentals and events in the building
  • Other duties include regular maintenance of gear, inventory, andmaintainingproper storage of all the Multimedia equipment

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Execute duties andprojects asassigned
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with diverse range of collaborators
  • Working knowledge of Isadora and Watchout platforms, Photoshop and video editing software, networkinfrastructureand theatrical rigginga plus
  • Drive to understandnew technologiesand how to integrate them into theatre
  • Events engineering or theatrical experience a plus
