Production Planner

Chemring Countermeasures is a world-leading and innovative company, designing and manufacturing advanced countermeasure solutions for armed forces across the globe. We are looking for a motivated and analytical Production Planner to join our Operations team and play a key role in delivering customer commitments while supporting operational efficiency and business growth.

Overview of the role

As a Production Planner, you will be responsible for translating customer demand into achievable production plans. Working closely with Production, Procurement, Engineering, Quality and Logistics teams, you will ensure production schedules are realistic, material availability is maintained and customer delivery requirements are achieved.

This role requires someone who can balance priorities, identify risks, communicate effectively and make informed decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Review customer demand and establish achievable delivery commitments.
• Develop and maintain production plans that balance customer requirements, material availability and operational capacity.
• Work closely with key stakeholders to resolve production, material and resource constraints.
• Monitor production performance and delivery KPIs, identifying risks and implementing recovery plans where required.
• Manage and update production schedules in response to changing business priorities.
• Support material planning activities and work with Procurement to address shortages.
• Maintain accurate planning information within ERP/MRP systems.
• Coordinate planning activities relating to new products and engineering changes.
• Lead planning review meetings and communicate priorities across the business.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance planning effectiveness, inventory performance and customer delivery.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and/or Experience

• Experience in Production Planning, Manufacturing Planning or a similar Supply Chain role within a manufacturing environment.
• Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and production scheduling principles.
• Experience balancing customer demand against production capacity and material availability.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and mitigate risk.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively across multiple business functions.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills and/or Experience

• HNC or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Operations or a related discipline.
• Experience of capacity planning or advanced planning and scheduling tools.
• Knowledge of Bills of Materials (BOMs) and manufacturing master data.
• Experience supporting new product introduction and engineering change activities.
• Understanding of inventory management and stock control within a manufacturing environment. Continuous improvement experience.

This role will be worked over a 4.5 day week onsite; Monday to Thursday 08:00 - 16:45 and Friday 08:00 - 12:30.
