The Opportunity
The Production Planner is responsible for executing the production schedule established by the Planning Manager by ensuring manufacturing orders, materials, resources, and production activities are aligned to support customer delivery commitments. This role owns the day-to-day execution of assigned projects by coordinating with Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Warehouse, Quality, and Project Management to remove constraints, resolve production issues, and maintain ERP system accuracy. The Production Planner proactively identifies schedule risks, expedites critical activities, and ensures assigned work orders progress according to plan.
What you will do?
- Execute the production schedule and release Manufacturing Orders (MOs).
- Monitor production progress, identify scheduling issues, and expedite orders to meet customer and business requirements.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing, Procurement, and other departments to resolve production and material constraints.
- Ensure materials, Bills of Material (BOMs), and routings are accurate and ready before production begins.
- Maintain Manufacturing Orders, planning data, and accurate transactions within the ERP system.
- Review and process MRP recommendations and exception messages.
- Communicate production status, schedule risks, and recovery plans to key stakeholders.
- Support engineering changes on active production orders.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement, Warehouse, Quality, and Project Management to ensure efficient production execution.
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance production planning, scheduling, and ERP processes.
- Participate in Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement initiatives, and root cause corrective actions.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in production planning within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in heavy manufacturing and project-based manufacturing operations preferred.
- Proficiency with MRP/ERP systems for production planning, scheduling, and inventory control.
- Strong knowledge of capacity planning, production scheduling, and manufacturing workflows.
- Experience managing manufacturing orders from release through completion.
- Working knowledge of Bills of Material (BOMs), routings, and engineering change management (ECM) processes.
- Experience with inventory planning and inventory management principles.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis, reporting, and forecasting.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to interpret production data and identify improvement opportunities.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while meeting deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using Deltek Costpoint or a similar ERP system in a manufacturing environment.
- APICS Certified in Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM) certification preferred.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Six Sigma certification or practical experience applying Six Sigma tools to improve operational performance.
- Experience developing reports and dashboards using Microsoft Power BI.
- Experience with finite scheduling software and advanced production scheduling methodologies.
- Experience in project-based manufacturing or engineer-to-order (ETO) manufacturing environments.
Working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems and compliance requirements.
