The Opportunity

The Production Planning Manager leads the production planning function and is responsible for developing and maintaining the master production schedule, ensuring production plans are executable, and coordinating the timely flow of materials and work orders through manufacturing. This role manages the Production Planning team and works closely with Manufacturing, Procurement, Engineering, Warehouse, Materials Management, Logistics, and Program Management to ensure on-time delivery, schedule adherence, and efficient production execution.

What you will do?

  • Lead and develop the Production Planning team, including coaching, performance management, and workload prioritization.
  • Own and maintain the Master Production Schedule (MPS) to support customer commitments and manufacturing objectives.
  • Release, monitor, and revise production schedules based on material availability, engineering changes, and operational priorities.
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing to sequence work orders and resolve production constraints.
  • Partner with Procurement, Warehouse, Materials Management, and Logistics to ensure materials are available to support scheduled production.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to address BOM, routing, and engineering change issues that impact production execution.
  • Monitor schedule adherence and proactively communicate risks, delays, and recovery plans to leadership.
  • Lead planning inputs for SIOP and execution meetings while aligning production schedules with approved demand plans.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to standardize planning processes, improve data accuracy, and reduce schedule disruptions.
  • Ensure ERP planning data, production orders, and scheduling transactions are accurate and maintained in accordance with company procedures.
  • Prepare and present planning metrics, production status updates, and risk assessments to leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree four-year college or university; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 years minimum experience leading planners or schedulers.
  • 5+ years in manufacturing planning or supply chain.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Costpoint, SAP, Oracle, or similar.
  • Excellent communication skills (presentations, verbal and written).
  • Highly knowledgeable with production planning concepts such as MRP and MPS.
  • Strong understanding of Inventory Management
  • Proficiency in Excel and planning analytics
  • Understanding of budget responsibility and profit and loss management
  • Exceptional analytical and conceptional thinking skills
  • Working knowledge of Continuous Improvement / Lean methodologies
  • Heavy manufacturing assembly experience
  • APICS CPIM/CSCP certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment or heavy industrial/electromechanical assembly is preferred.
