By utilizing engineering fundamentals and knowledge from field experience, the Production Quality Engineer I ensures the quality of all Black Diamond Equipment climbing/skiing product and:
Education
Required: Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Materials Science or similar)
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in one of above with coursework in modern manufacturing methods and controls
Work Experience
Required: Zero to three years engineering experience; Internships or major class work focused on fundamentals of engineering, testing materials & statistical analysis.
Preferred: 2 years post-graduate experience in materials testing, statistical analysis, design and theory of mechanical systems, data acquisition systems, or measurement methods.
Skills and general experience:
Required:
Must have a working user's knowledge of climbing, backcountry skiing/riding, and/or trail running and hiking as well as the equipment needed and commonly used for each. Required equipment and possess demonstrated ability to field test gear and provide immediate feedback.
Preferred:
All of the above plus:
Required Licenses: Candidates must be eligible for a passport or other documentation necessary to travel internationally from the United States
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
General physical requirements: Light work; occasional Medium to Heavy work. Some overseas travel to OEM factories may be required.
Visual acuity requirements: Close vision, Color Vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception, Ability to adjust focus.
Motion and sensory requirements: Climbing, Balancing, Stooping, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pulling, Lifting, Fingering, Grasping, Feeling, And Talking.
Physical working conditions: Oils, inside atmosphere, Hazards
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible and authorized to continuously improve upon and perform the following functions in accordance with BD's Quality System, Safety and Employee Policy procedures and policies:
Perform raw material, work-in-process and final batch tests and inspections and complete investigations into nonconformances with direction from the Quality Engineering Manager
Understand, interpret, and accurately document design requirements determined by design teams during new product introduction process.
Responsible for assisting in the creation, implementation, and execution of the quality plan.
Gather test data, complete analysis of test data with direction from the Quality Engineering Manager. Prepare written reports discussing unusual test results and suggest appropriate actions.
Develop and maintain both software and hardware for data acquisition systems for various product testing needs.
Develop, fabricate, and maintain test and inspection fixtures and machinery as directed.
Maintain a records system for test, design, and inspection documentation.
Responsible for helping to maintain Quality test lab, equipment & fixtures in a clean, neat and organized manner.
Create and maintain testing instructions, test equipment operating instructions and inspection documentation.
