Purpose
A Peace Coffee Roaster ensures daily production meets demand through coordinated, quality-focused work on roasting equipment and throughout the roastery, prioritizing safety. Responsibilities include roasting to specific profiles, operational checks, fulfillment of work orders, and daily collaboration with the Supervisors and Management.
Job Responsibilities
Essential Duties
Production Roasting
- Roast coffee beans using Diedrich CR70 & CR140 machines in accordance with Peace Coffee's roasting specifications.
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of roasting techniques.
- Prepare and roast batches of coffee to fulfill daily work orders in a high-demand manufacturing environment.
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of roasting equipment in accordance with safety and equipment standards.
- Effective communication between Roasting, Food Safety, and Production Departments.
- Adhere to organizational protocols, including roastery organization, food safety, and GMP standards.
- Communication and data entry capabilities utilizing Google Workspace and Netsuite ERP software.
Quality Control
- Proactively identify and help troubleshoot any operational issues or anomalies, adhering to established protocols, and promptly reporting them to the supervisor.
- Follow Peace Coffee's lab standards and protocols, actively participate in team cuppings, report results accurately, and assist in lab organization tasks including setup and cleanup.
Non-Essential Duties
- Fulfill other duties assigned by supervisors or management, including occasionally assisting other departments.

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skill, Ability, and Experience Requirements:
- Prior experience in production, manufacturing, or similar environments is strongly preferred.
- A strong passion for coffee.
- High school diploma, or equivalent, required. Some post-secondary school is a plus.
- Intermediate math skills and ability to work with computer programs, including NetSuite, Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Drive, and Gmail.
- Forklift operation experience preferred.
- Ability to adapt schedules to changing production and inventory needs.
- Ability to communicate effectively and in a timely manner.
- High attention to detail is required.
- Ability to thrive in an independent, self-directed environment with a strong teamwork and collaboration ethic.
- Ability to be flexible while working on multiple tasks at once.

- The Operations teams are responsible for Safety (maintaining a healthy and safe environment, taking action as outlined in operating procedures, personal and job site safety practices, and following bike path/road safety practices), Dependability & Reliability (working reliably and efficiently, sticking to the schedule and proactively communicating when issue arise that may make it challenging to meet commitments), Equipment Operations (Understand how to operate tools and equipment required to perform your job. Actively communicate issues with equipment or lack of understanding/needs for additional training), and Strong Sense of Urgency (ability to filter out the noise, act as a high-performing operational unit, and deliver daily requirements).
- The Roasting team is responsible for Quality Control (Understanding the specifications for various roasting profiles and ensuring the product meets specifications. Conduct routine cupping green testing and record other measurements to address customer concerns. Product Development (partner with Sales/Customer Service, Marketing, and Dir. Coffee to build new products and optimize current products for evolving market needs and/or customer feedback.)
Physical Requirements:
- This job is performed in warehouse conditions that can be hot, dusty, and have continuous industrial noise throughout the day.
- This job requires standing on concrete, bending, walking, and lifting continuously throughout the day.
- Ability to lift to 65 pounds regularly.
- Ability to do a 2-person team lift of 150 pounds, as needed.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks on occasion.
- Ability to use cleaning products of medium toxicity.
- Ability to safely operate powered equipment (forklift, power jack, powered tools, etc.)
- Ability to climb ladders.
Compensation
Hourly Rate: $22.30 - 23.30/hour
Benefits: Health/Dental/Short-Term Disability Insurances - first day of the month following hire date, 401k with match - after 90 days.
Benefits may vary based on actual hours worked regularly.
