Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and responsible Production & Safety Assistant to join our team. This is a unique hybrid role that blends shop floor safety with front-office administrative support. In this role, you will champion our safety culture-acting as the primary lead for OSHA compliance and training-while also assisting with essential office operations.

The ideal candidate is an organized communicator who feels just as comfortable on the shop floor as they do handling administrative tasks. Bi-lingual candidates (English / Spanish) would be helpful but not a necessity.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

  • Act as the Safety Lead: Coordinate all company safety activities, including written programs, OSHA reporting, and Safety Committee meetings.
  • Compliance & Standards: Support the SHARP program and maintain OSHA standards, ensuring proper machine guarding, PPE usage, and LOTO (Lock-out/Tag-out) procedures are strictly followed.
  • Training & Development: Conduct safety training for all new hires (including temporary staff) and facilitate annual refresher courses to ensure everyone has the knowledge to work safely.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous safety and training records, as well as controlled documents for the production and maintenance departments.
  • Inspections: Perform regular shop safety walkthroughs to identify hazards and implement immediate corrections.
  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively research new safety methods, attend educational workshops, and help implement more organized training protocols.

Production & Operational Support

  • Shop Floor Support: Ensure shop employees have access to necessary safety supplies.
  • Logistics: Schedule scrap pickups and complete corresponding documentation.
  • Facility Maintenance: Schedule annual fire alarm and communication system checks.
  • Reporting: Compile and report employee performance statistics to the Production Foreman.


Administrative Support

  • Front Office Duties: Assist with daily tasks such as answering phones, greeting and registering visitors (ensuring they have proper PPE), sorting mail, and filing.
  • Clerical Support: Assist with order entry and invoicing as needed.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Prior experience in a manufacturing or shop environment is preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge: Must be able to pass company ISO, Safety, and Math competency tests.
  • Safety Certifications: Familiarity with or ability to complete OSHA-required training in Lock-out/Tag-out, Hazard Communication, PPE, and Emergency Evacuation.

Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively train staff and enforce regulations with respect. . Bi-lingual candidates (English / Spanish) would be helpful but not a necessity.

  • Reliability: Excellent attendance record and the ability to manage time effectively.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, & Friday (7:30 AM – 4:00 PM).
  • Shop Environment: This role involves frequent exposure to a metalworking shop environment, including moving machinery, loud noises, dust, mist, oils, and solvents.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Must be able to traverse the shop floor and office frequently.
    • Manual dexterity to use computers and office equipment.
    • Ability to communicate clearly in person and over the phone in a noisy environment.
