    Job Description

    Production Shift Supervisor - Dispensary

    About Chemify

Chemify is digitising chemistry. We are building the infrastructure to design, discover and synthesise new molecules on demand, so that the medicines and materials the world needs are no longer limited by how fast a chemist can work at a bench. Our platform combines purpose-built programming languages, robotics, AI and the world's largest and continuously growing database of chemical programs, accelerating the pace at which useful chemistry reaches the people who need it. Chemify is supported by some of the best investors from Silicon Valley and across the world, including Triatomic Capital, BlueYard ventures, DCVC, Founders Fund, and others.

    Job Purpose

Reporting to the Inventory and Materials Manager, the Production Shift Supervisor leads the dispensary team on shift and is accountable for running that shift smoothly, safely and to schedule. The role combines hands-on chemistry with first line management: you will develop and support your team, keep the lab moving, troubleshoot problems as they arise, and drive the improvements that allow us to scale our automated synthesis of crude chemical compounds for client and internal Chemify projects.

    Who we are looking for

This is a first line management role and an ideal next step for an experienced Production Chemist who has begun to take on responsibility for others and now wants to lead a team of their own. You will be a smart, enthusiastic and organised individual who is comfortable making decisions in a fast-moving environment, is confident holding people to a high standard, and is excited to help transform Chemify from an R&D stage organisation into an operational powerhouse.

We welcome applications from candidates with HNC/HND qualifications in Applied Sciences/Chemistry or relevant degrees who can demonstrate significant hands-on laboratory experience alongside evidence of leading, training or mentoring others. Formal line management experience is welcome but not essential; full support and training will be provided.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Organise and manage the smooth running of the shift, including producing a rota so the team understand their daily roles
    • Lead, support and develop a team of Production Chemists and Senior Production Chemists, holding regular 1 to 1 sessions and setting relevant SMART goals
    • Be the first point of contact for your team, troubleshooting problems which arise in the lab and escalating where appropriate
    • Manage sickness, absence, holidays and lateness through our HR and time systems (PeopleHR and UKG) in line with company processes
    • Support new starts through the 30/60/90 day onboarding plan and complete probation review meetings
    • Provide/ be responsible for training on safety procedures such as Toxic, Corrosive, Sharps, Stench and Pyrophorics
    • Support the running of the shift by working hands-on across the dispensary processes when required • Lead the implementation of new and improved processes in the lab, and author SOPs for relevant synthesis processes • Run regular team meetings and act as the point of contact between shifts and other teams, communicating with fellow supervisors and managers
    • Maintain housekeeping and 5S standards in line with Fit to Operate
    • Take part in recruitment, including reviewing video interviews, carrying out in person interviews and contributing to hiring decisions at debrief
    • Uphold Health and Safety and Quality standards at all times, contributing to risk assessments, CAPA investigations, audits and continuous improvement under Chemify's ISO 9001:2015 aligned Quality Management System

    Qualifications and Experience

    • HNC/HND or degree in Chemistry, Applied Sciences or a relevant field preferred
    • Substantial hands-on laboratory experience, including the handling of chemicals, ideally within a high-throughput or manufacturing environment
    • Experience of leading, supervising, training or mentoring others in a technical setting
    • Confident troubleshooting technical and process problems in a live laboratory
    • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and deliver to tight deadlines
    • Strong communication (fluent in English) and interpersonal skills, able to work with both technical and non-technical colleagues across teams and sites
    • Good numeracy, literacy and attention to detail
    • Competent user of Microsoft Office and digital record-keeping systems

    Desirable

    • Experience of automated or robotic chemistry platforms
    • Enthusiasm to push automation approaches in chemistry
    • Experience of HR or workforce systems such as PeopleHR and UKG
    • Experience of authoring SOPs and of 5S or continuous improvement activity

    Location

This role will be based at the company's manufacturing site at OakBank Industrial Estate, Garscube Road, Glasgow, G20 7LU.

    Shift Pattern

This role will involve working one of several shifts (e.g. early, late, nightshift, weekend) as part of our seven-day operation. The successful candidate will lead their own team on a rotating pattern of, initially, early and late shifts across seven-days.

The successful candidate will take up the role on 24 August 2026.
