Summary

Supervises and coordinates activities of production employees engaged in operating variety of machines to manufacture parts or products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews daily production requirements for shift, then reviews production line to ensure everything is in place and operational (headcount, raw materials, etc.) in order to meet production requirements and quality standards.
  • Plans and directs production activities and establishes production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
  • Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production utilization of human resources and equipment.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Works with Engineering and Maintenance to develop and implement methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality.
  • Consults with Engineering personnel related to modification of equipment in order to improve production and quality of product.
  • Revises production schedules and priorities as result of equipment failure or operating problems
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
  • Accountable for continuous improvement
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Provides direction and example for interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to department personnel.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • Participate in Employee Involvement meetings.
  • Orients, trains and evaluate employees' performance on new jobs for which they have bid.
  • Provides and maintains a safe work environment and participates in accident investigations.
  • Facilitates positive employee relations and work environment for departmental staff.
  • Manage subordinate supervisors who supervise up to sixty production employees.
  • Works in conjunction with Human Resources to fulfill supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Union contract, organization's policies and applicable laws.

Education / Experience

  • Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school is preferred.

(Experience in lieu of degree, acceptable)

  • Minimum of eight years of experience in a progressive manufacturing environment, experience with JIT manufacturing, working knowledge of QS 9000 / ISO 9001 requirements
  • Minimum of three years of supervisory experience, preferably in a union environment

Language Ability

  • Ability to effectively present information to management and employees of the organization

Math Ability

  • Basic math skills required.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to work instructions and ability to deal with problems in standardized situations required.

Computer Skills

  • MS Word & Excel, Internet, E-mail
