Description

As the Production Supervisor - Quality Assurance, you will hold a front-line supervisory role responsible for all aspects of the printing process, with a strong emphasis on quality oversight and compliance at the assigned site. This role requires a high level of detail and a quality-first mindset. In this critical role, you are responsible for production floor operation, ensuring product quality is verified and documented at every stage. You will oversee the shift to meet or exceed Fortis standards for high safety awareness and practices, high quality, volume, and efficiency in production operations, while reinforcing quality systems, audits, and corrective action follow-through on the production floor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and verify product quality of all orders prior to running on press and throughout the production process. Review and sign-off on all job-related paperwork and quality checks.
  • Proactively audit jobs while in production to confirm quality checks are being completed properly; escalate and correct non-conforming conditions in real time.
  • Support Plant budgets by controlling manpower, waste, overtime, and production efficiencies.
  • Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis on issues that cause downtime, waste, or quality non-conformance, correcting data collection and job specifications as necessary.
  • Partner with the Quality team to investigate internal and external complaints, identify root cause, and implement sustainable corrective actions on the shift.
  • Communicate and document non-conforming raw materials, in-process product, or finished goods, and ensure proper hold, disposition, and escalation procedures are followed.
  • Reinforce adherence to SOPs, 1-point lessons, and quality work instructions; identify gaps and work with Quality to update documentation as processes change.
  • Provide training and development opportunities for new and existing employees, including training on quality standards, inspection methods, and test procedures.
  • Communicate goals and objectives and motivate employees to achieve company quality and production standards. Coach employees for performance improvement and inform Management of poor performance, quality misses, or policy violations by any specific individuals.
  • Approve employee time in the online timekeeping system by assigned deadline.
  • Ensure employees have the required materials, tools, and quality documentation to perform their daily job duties.
  • Proactively participate in continuous improvement and training initiatives, including lean and quality improvement events. Experience in participating and leading lean initiatives/events.
  • Enforce and follow all safety procedures and policies. Enforce and follow other company policies related to employee performance (includes attendance policy).
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all associates during work hours.
  • Follow and enforce the production schedule while maintaining quality requirements and customer specifications.
  • Maintain the security of the building when working overnight or on weekends (includes alarm setting and disarming and ensuring the building is locked). Ensure all doors remain shut and locked during overnight or weekend hours of operation.
  • Proactively communicate with Scheduling, Quality, and the Production Manager regarding any issues with labels, dies, or product quality. Communicate with other management staff or salespeople as necessary to share important information about jobs or production practices. Properly articulate quality and production issues happening during work shift to Customer Service, Scheduling, Quality, and Production Management as needed.
  • Support completion of weekly and monthly Quality Scorecards for the shift; work with Quality and Production Management to address performance misses and develop appropriate corrective actions.
  • Maintain the work area and machines in a clean and orderly condition during and after the work shift, consistent with GMP and quality housekeeping standards.
  • Work multiple shifts, including overtime or weekend hours as required.
  • Continually improve Leadership, Management, and quality systems knowledge for future growth.
  • Additional duties as required.

Requirements & Qualifications:
Education and Experience:

  • High School (or GED equivalent) required.
  • At least 3-5 years' experience in press operations within a printing or packaging environment, with at least 1-2 of those years held in a supervisory position.
  • Experience with, or strong working knowledge of, quality systems in a manufacturing environment (e.g., SOPs, non-conformance/corrective action processes, internal audits, ISO/AIB or customer quality requirements) strongly preferred.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Leadership abilities to motivate a team and earn the respect and trust of assigned employees.
  • Ability to prioritize jobs and be proactive, with excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong troubleshooting and technical skills, including root cause analysis on quality and downtime issues.
  • Working knowledge of quality inspection methods, documentation control, and corrective action processes.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Experience with manufacturing ERP systems. Must be willing to learn and capable of being trained on software as necessary.
  • Willing to work overtime or weekends as necessary, to support production.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises up to 30 people on a shift.
  • Ownership of shift operations, production results, and quality outcomes for the shift.

Training Requirements:

  • Willing to attend required training courses or sessions, both onsite or off site, related to the job as assigned, including quality systems training.

Physical Demands:

  • Regular walking throughout the production floor for long periods of time.
  • Standing, crouching, and other repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds with assistance under the company safe lifting requirements (Team lift, lift jack, pallet jack).
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test and subject to random drug screening.

Work Environment:

  • Regular exposure to dust and noise in the production environment.
  • Warehouse environment temperatures may be influenced by outside temperatures.

PPE Requirements:

  • Safety glasses are highly recommended in the production area.
  • Safety toe shoes highly recommended in the Plant Warehouse and Production areas.
