Production Supervisor - SMT/DIP Manufacturing

Position Title

Production Supervisor - SMT/DIP Operations

Position Summary

The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of Surface Mount Technology (SMT), Dual In-line Package (DIP), and Material Preparation Area (MPA) production activities. This role ensures production schedules are achieved, quality standards are maintained, workforce performance is optimized, and continuous improvement initiatives drive operational excellence. The ideal candidate is a hands-on manufacturing leader with strong problem-solving skills and experience managing high-volume electronic manufacturing operations.


Key Responsibilities

Production Oversight

  • Supervise daily SMT, DIP, and/or Material Preparation Area (MPA) operations, including line setup, production runs, and shutdown activities.
  • Monitor production schedules and ensure work orders are completed on time and according to customer requirements.
  • Manage production work-in-process (WIP) levels and ensure aging targets are maintained.
  • Coordinate with Planning, Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to address material shortages, equipment issues, and process challenges.
  • Drive production output while maintaining efficiency and quality objectives.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and motivate production operators and team leaders to achieve daily production goals.
  • Ensure employees are properly trained on equipment operation, manufacturing processes, quality requirements, and safety procedures.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and support employee development initiatives.
  • Facilitate and lead Production Department M360 dialogue meetings.
  • Foster a positive work environment focused on teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Process & Equipment Management

  • Ensure production line readiness through collaboration with support departments, including PMC, PSE, QA, PME, and Technical Center teams.
  • Monitor production performance and escalate issues impacting safety, quality, productivity, or delivery.
  • Support equipment maintenance activities and minimize downtime through proactive planning and communication.
  • Optimize production processes to improve throughput and operational efficiency.

Quality & Compliance

  • Enforce quality standards, including IPC-A-610, ISO requirements, and customer-specific specifications.
  • Review real-time production and quality metrics, identifying trends and initiating corrective actions as needed.
  • Partner with Quality and Engineering teams to address production defects and implement improvements.
  • Ensure documentation, traceability, and compliance requirements are consistently maintained.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve productivity, and enhance product quality.
  • Participate in and support Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and Six Sigma initiatives.
  • Analyze production data, identify root causes of issues, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects that increase operational effectiveness and customer satisfaction.

Safety & 6S

  • Promote and maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and 6S standards.
  • Identify, address, and document safety concerns in a timely manner.
  • Lead by example in maintaining a culture of safety and operational excellence.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology, Business Administration, Manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience within manufacturing operations.
  • Strong knowledge of SMT, DIP, and/or Material Preparation Area (MPA) processes and equipment.
