Production Supervisor

Overview / Summary

The Production Supervisor will manage small work teams in a fast-paced, high-volume, unionized manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for team safety, team building, training and manpower allocation, continuous improvement, product quality, throughput and cost targets, and team morale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure production plans are met by analyzing issues, implementing continuous improvement activities, and sustaining solutions within the assigned production area.
  • Own safety, quality, and throughput objectives for the assigned production area.
  • Ensure a safe workplace and lead teams in improving safety while enforcing required safety tools and procedures.
  • Analyze production losses and use manufacturing systems and methodologies to improve performance.
  • Understand manufacturing process flow, bottlenecks, alarms, fault conditions, and escalation procedures to minimize downtime and maintain production targets.
  • Analyze quality KPIs, prioritize quality issues, and provide appropriate guidance to Team Leaders.
  • Ensure appropriate allocation of employees on the production line, manage absenteeism, and train and build effective teams.
  • Mobilize support groups and resources to assist with problem-solving activities.
  • Apply mechanical aptitude and knowledge of manufacturing equipment, conveyors, automation systems, and maintenance concepts to support production operations.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement and kaizen activities focused on safety, cost, quality, throughput, and waste reduction.
  • Respond proactively to production interruptions and ensure output targets are achieved.
  • Demonstrate accountability, curiosity, and a customer-focused approach when resolving issues that impact downstream operations.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work any shift and overtime as required.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with employees at various levels within a manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to build effective business relationships with plant leadership and customers.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Goal-oriented self-starter with the ability to lead teams.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced manufacturing environment while maintaining a strong sense of urgency and responsiveness to production needs.
  • Ability to spend extended periods on the production floor, including walking throughout the facility and climbing stairs as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field.
  • Two or more years of supervisory experience in a high-volume environment.
  • Experience with welding, including resistance spot welding, and robotic applications.
  • Experience with robotics controls, automation systems, conveyors, or related manufacturing technologies.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing team members.
  • Previous experience working in a union environment.
  • Experience with continuous improvement systems and lean manufacturing.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Suite software programs.
  • Experience in automotive manufacturing, body shop operations, or stamping environments.
  • Understanding of manufacturing process flow, bottleneck management, downtime reduction, and production recovery activities.
  • Maintenance-related experience, mechanical aptitude, or exposure to highly automated manufacturing operations.
  • Manufacturing and union experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work first, second, and third shifts in a 24/7 manufacturing operation.
  • Experience supervising within a highly automated manufacturing environment is highly desired.
  • Experience with robotics controls, automation, welding, or stamping is preferred.
