The Production Technician II is an experienced technician responsible for independently diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and testing complex construction equipment. This role focuses on non-routine mechanical and electrical issues, root-cause analysis, system-level diagnostics, and ensuring equipment meets quality and performance standards.
The technician works primarily during production completion and quality inspection, serving as a senior technical resource for identifying defects, determining corrective actions, and validating repairs through operational testing.
Essential Job FunctionsDiagnose complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, engine, and powertrain issues.
Identify root causes of equipment failures and determine appropriate repair strategies.
Perform advanced troubleshooting and repairs when standard procedures do not resolve the issue.
Disassemble and assemble complex components using hand tools, pneumatic tools, and specialized equipment.
Read and interpret technical manuals, machine schematics, work orders, and diagnostic information.
Research advanced repair requirements and coordinate parts requests as needed.
Operate equipment to evaluate performance and verify repair effectiveness.
Load and unload equipment or components from customer or carrier vehicles as required.
Follow Quality Management System requirements and established safety and environmental standards.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain a positive, professional work environment.
Participate in Open Book Management principles.
Perform other duties as required by operational needs.
High school diploma or equivalent.
5 years of experience troubleshooting and repairing heavy or complex equipment.
Demonstrated experience diagnosing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, engine, and powertrain systems.
Experience using diagnostic tools and interpreting diagnostic data.
Strong root-cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
Ability to read and interpret complex schematics and technical manuals.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced production environment.
Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
Ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations related to diagnostics and repairs.
Experience repairing construction equipment.
Experience with Genie equipment or similar aerial lift/construction equipment.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and product lifecycle.
Forklift experience or certification.
Work is primarily performed in a heavy manufacturing environment with exposure to dust, fumes, noise, oils, grease, and varying temperatures. Employees are required to follow applicable Haz/Com, safety, environmental, and PPE requirements, including safety-toe footwear and safety glasses.
Physical RequirementsApproximately 90% standing, walking, and climbing; 10% sitting.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Frequent walking, standing, climbing, and use of hands for handling tools and equipment.
Ability to communicate effectively and hear safety and operational instructions.
Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM.
Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week.
Occasional overtime, extended weekday hours, or Saturday work may be required based on operational demands.
Overtime is compensated in accordance with applicable federal and state wage and hour requirements.
