Location: 9701 Old State Road 25 North, Lafayette, IN 47905 (Metal fabrication plant setting; ~20–30 minutes outside central Lafayette near Delphi
Pay rate: $17.00 – $18.00/hr (Plus $1.00/hr shift differential for 2nd Shift)
Work schedule:
1st Shift: Mon–Thu 5:00 AM–3:30 PM, Fri 6:00 AM–2:30 PM & mandatory every other Sat 5:00 AM–11:00 AM
2nd Shift: Mon–Thu 1:00 PM–1:30 AM & mandatory every other Fri 2:00 PM–8:00 PM
49+ hours/week
Temporary with potential for conversion
Overview
The Production Technician is an entry-level position responsible for cleaning and servicing the inner vessels of cryogenic industrial gas trailers. Operating in an active metal fabrication plant, this physically demanding role involves entering confined spaces through small tank openings, working at heights from lifts in safety harnesses, using power tools (such as grinders), and executing oxygen-clean sanitation procedures to meet strict quality and safety standards.

Job Specifications
- Enter inner vessels of industrial tanks through openings as small as 16 inches to clean, prep, and perform maintenance work
- Work comfortably in confined spaces, dirty/wet conditions, and at elevated heights utilizing safety harnesses and lifts
- Utilize power tools, specifically angle grinders and surface preparation equipment, to clean and finish tank interiors
- Execute precision industrial cleaning and oxygen-clean sanitation processes following strict safety and quality standards
- Perform lockout/tagout protocols and complete required safety training (confined space, crane operation, lift operation)
- Work 49+ hours per week, adhering to mandatory overtime requirements on Fridays (2nd shift) or Saturdays (1st shift)
- Manufacturing, mechanical, industrial plant, or food-processing/USDA sanitation experience strongly preferred (employers such as Caterpillar, Subaru, Arconic, or industrial cleaning preferred; traditional janitorial/restaurant experience insufficient)
- Must be physically able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, and work in confined spaces and dirty environments
- High attention to detail, strong work ethic, and dependable attendance record required
- Must pass Plug Power's zero-tolerance drug screen (including THC)

- Are you claustrophobic? (Cleaning inside tanks can be dirty, wet)
- This role requires you to enter a 16" tank opening and clean the inner vessel (confined space) wearing PPE and performing physically dirty and wet demanding work. How do you feel about that?

- Can you work 1st or 2nd shift?
- Willing to work overtime and some Fridays (2nd shift) / Saturdays (1st shift)?
- Do you have any concern with taking confined space and crane training?
