Position Summary:

The Production Worker at Harcros Chemicals is responsible for loading, unloading, moving materials, and filling containers within a plant environment. The role also supports chemical production processes and may include handling and managing hazardous waste in accordance with safety and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Load, unload, and transport materials within the plant using forklifts and other equipment
  • Read work orders or follow instructions to determine material handling needs
  • Load and unload tank trucks
  • Move materials from storage to designated areas
  • Operate industrial trucks or hoists for material movement
  • Perform bleach production activities
  • Produce liquid soda ash and/or hypochlorite; drum sodium hypochlorite
  • Conduct daily forklift inspections and perform light maintenance
  • Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping in assigned work areas
  • Follow and uphold all safety procedures and use required safety equipment

Hazardous Materials & Compliance (varies by location):

  • Handle, inspect, and store hazardous waste
  • Respond to hazardous spills and incidents in accordance with emergency plans
  • Prepare and maintain hazardous waste documentation (e.g., manifests, logs, reports)

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios, percentages)
  • Ability to read and understand safety rules, operating instructions, and manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and communicate effectively
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to follow written/oral instructions
  • Ability to operate a forklift and other mechanical equipment
  • Ability to perform physical job duties (lifting, standing, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in material handling, manufacturing, or chemical production (1-3 months or more)

  • Experience handling hazardous materials or waste
  • Forklift certification
  • Familiarity with industrial safety procedures and compliance standards

Work Environment:

  • Frequent work near moving mechanical parts
  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions
  • Frequent exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Occasional exposure to:
  • High and precarious places
  • Electrical hazards
  • Vibration
  • Typically loud noise levels

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent standing, walking, and use of hands and arms

  • Occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling

  • Lifting requirements:

  • Regularly: up to 25 lbs

  • Frequently: up to 50 lbs

  • Occasionally: up to 100 lbs

  • Close and distance vision

  • Color and peripheral vision

  • Depth perception
