UPMC is seeking a highly skilled Professional Critical Care Ground (CCG Paramedic to join our critical care transport team. This role provides advanced life support and critical care to severely ill and injured patients across diverse environments, working under PA Department of Health BLS, ALS, and CCG guidelines.

As a CCG Paramedic, you will deliver exceptional patient care using independent clinical judgment when medical command is unavailable, while consistently upholding UPMCs mission, values, and commitment to excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Clinical Excellence

  • Provide advanced life support to critically ill or injured patients in accordance with approved protocols and standards of care.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, stabilization, and advanced interventions.
  • Exercise independent clinical judgment when medical command contact is not available.
  • Demonstrate competency in pharmacological interventions and advanced medical procedures.
  • Maintain patient and family confidentiality, dignity, and respect at all times.
  • Establish and sustain positive, professional relationships with patients, families, and partners in high-stress environments.
  • Participate in clinical research projects as assigned.

Safety, Equipment & Operations

  • Ensure the safety of patients, crew members, and the public at all times.
  • Properly select and use personal protective equipment (PPE based on anticipated hazards.
  • Safely operate and maintain patient-laden stretchers, including loading, unloading, and transport.
  • Perform daily equipment and vehicle checks, including medications.
  • Maintain a clean patient care environment and crew quarters.
  • Report safety concerns through appropriate channels and utilize available safety tools.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Accurately and timely document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Collect and process demographic, medical necessity, and billing information.
  • Complete all required documentation, including transport logs, medication logs, payroll records, expense reports, and orientation materials.
  • Adhere to all scheduling policies, including availability, minimum time requirements, and schedule requests.
  • Comply with the UPMC uniform policy at all times.

Professionalism & Teamwork

  • Report to work well-rested, fit for duty, and in compliance with drug and alcohol policies (including prescription and over-the-counter medication use.
  • Ensure crew is properly logged into the computer duty roster at the start of shift.
  • Participate in shift change reports with off-going crews.
  • Demonstrate a positive, professional attitude with a clear understanding of customer service expectations.
  • Actively participate in peer-reviewed quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support the education, onboarding, and training of new staff.
  • Represent UPMC professionally during scheduled and unscheduled community outreach activities.

Health, Fitness & Readiness

  • Maintain fitness for duty and meet all employee health requirements, including required medical screenings.
  • If qualified as a flight crew member, comply with additional fitness standards such as weight limits and hearing conservation requirements.
  • Promptly report all injuries and complete required documentation, regardless of severity.

Experience & General Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in critical care transport and/or emergency department settings required.
  • Must be eligible to receive Medical Command authorization from the Medical Director.
  • Ability to work effectively in a complex, fast-paced environment, manage multiple and changing priorities, and safely operate specialized medical equipment.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel to any assigned base site.
  • Successful completion of the approved orientation and training program, including:

Licensure & Professional Credentials

  • Paramedic certification:
