Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP, an Am Law 50 firm, is seeking a Professional Development Assistant.
 
This position can be based in any of our offices. The offices are as follows: Downtown Los Angeles, Century City, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, New York, Orange County, Downtown San Diego, Del Mar, Silicon Valley, San Francisco and Washington, DC. There is only one opening.
 
The Professional Development Assistant will work with members of the Talent Management and Human Resources team to support and assist all facets of professional development for attorneys and the business services team.  This is a new role within the department and is being added due to the increased responsibilities relating to projects including business services training and development, attorney evaluation process, legal skills training and benchmarks, and attorney integration and engagement. 
 
 
Primary Responsibilities and Expectations
Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the Professional Development Team including Attorney Professional Development, Legal Skills Training, and Business Services Professional Development and Chief D&I Officer to support goals of the team and firm.
  • Assist in the coordination of the attorney annual evaluation processes.
  • Connect, track and report on various functions such as the mentor programs, attrition statistics and headcount.
  • Assist in the coordination of training programs, academies, and workshops.
  • Process and track expense reports and invoices.
  • Handle scheduling, drafting invitations and other communications, attendance tracking, preparing materials, coordinating with conference services, catering, technology, etc.
  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned.
 

Essential Functions of Job:
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and organized.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple assignments while working under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise a high standard of judgment and discretion.
  • Team player with excellent internal client service skills.


Qualifications and Experience 
Required Qualifications: 2+ years of professional development experience.  
Preferred Qualifications: Law firm experience is preferred.

 
Education
Required: Bachelor’s Degree 
 
Computer/Software Knowledge
Required: Strong Microsoft Office Applications including Teams
Preferred: Experience with viDesktop and CE Manager is a plus.
 
Work Environment
  • The current Firm policy is hybrid–working in the office a minimum of 3 days per week and working from home the rest of the week (subject to change).
  • Overtime may be required as the job duties demand.
 
Travel Requirements
  •  Travel to academies and conferences when required. 
 
 
 
California: The pay range for this position is $33.00 to $38.00 per hour.

New York: The pay range for this position is: $36.00 - $41.00 per hour.  Please note that the foregoing compensation information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position only and is provided pursuant to the New York City Salary Transparency Law. 
 
 
Washington D.C.: The pay range for this position is: $33.00 - $38.00 per hour. Medical, vision, and dental coverage is available, including coverage for dependents and domestic partners. Please note that the foregoing compensation and benefit information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position as of the time of this posting and is provided pursuant to the District of Columbia Wage Transparency Omnibus Amendment Act of 2023. 
 
 
Illinois: The wage range for this position is: $36.00 - $41.00 per hour. This position is eligible for medical, vision, and dental insurance. Please note that the foregoing compensation and benefit information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position only and is provided pursuant to Illinois Equal Pay Act.
