PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND WORK-BASED LEARNING SPECIALIST

FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Status: Non-Classified, Full-time, Benefits eligible
Salary: $50,000-$60,000/year
Funding: 3-year grant funded position
Summary: The Director of Professional Development & Workplace Training will lead, coordinate, and manage professional development initiatives for Mountwest staff while also designing and delivering customized training programs for external business and industry partners. The goals of the position are to continue expanding employee support, retention, effectiveness, leadership capacity, and development initiatives, while also benefiting the community through providing training opportunities needed by business and industry partners.
Finalists will be required to facilitate a brief training demonstration and participate in a simulated client needs assessment as part of the interview process.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Internal Professional Development Leadership:
Lead, coordinate, and manage professional development initiatives internally, including tracking participation and training feedback forms.
Collaborate with the Director of CETL and other college staff who provide training opportunities.
Create and manage badging for earned skills.
Lead the Staff Caring Campus and Professional Development Committee, and assess staff training needs.
Build internal mentorship, coaching, and leadership cohort programs.
Budget, track, and monitor professional development activities timely and accurately.
Utilizing a shared governance model, create and execute college-wide training plans.
Support supervisors in developing training plans, as needed, in collaboration with the VP of HR and Advancement.
Assist with employee retention events and initiatives on campus in collaboration with the VP of HR and Advancement.
Other related duties as assigned.
External Business & Industry Training:
Design and deliver customized fee-based training programs for external businesses using revenue generating strategies, ensuring return on investment (for instance, customer service training, skill development, budget management, professionalism, project management, etc).
Solicit local businesses and industries to identify training opportunities.
Develop community relationships for the purpose of providing training and development initiatives.
Identify local workforce gaps in which Mountwest can assist with through business partnership meetings.
Explore certification-based offerings for workforce upskilling, badging, and micro-credentialing.
Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business, organizational development, human resources, education, training and development, leadership, or a related field.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in professional development, workforce training, organizational development, or a related field.
Experience in business development or client relationship management.
Demonstrated experience designing, delivering, and evaluating professional development or workforce training programs.
Demonstrated leadership experience, including supervising employees, leading teams, or managing cross-functional initiatives.
Experience assessing organizational training needs and developing strategic training plans.
Experience managing projects, budgets, and multiple priorities.
Excellent presentation, facilitation, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage audiences of varying sizes.
Strong knowledge of adult learning principles, organizational development, leadership development, and employee engagement.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn institutional software systems.
Ability to travel locally as needed.
Licensure/Certification Required: Requires possession of a current/valid driver's license.
Physical/Work Demands: Incumbent works in a standard office environment and uses office equipment (e.g. computers, copies, fax machines, etc.), occasionally standing, walking, lifting or stooping. May be required to lift lightweight objects. Local travel is required for the position, with use of a personal vehicle being required. This is an in-person job, with no opportunity for fully remote work.
