What You Will Do

The successful applicant will work as a member of the Trace Analytical Chemistry team in the Nuclear and Radiochemistry group (C-NR), reporting to the Team Leader. Some of the specific duties include: tracking action items; formatting and distributing internal and external correspondence; maintaining electronic and hard-copy files; coordinating complex calendars, schedules, meetings logistics, and travel arrangements; participating on special projects; and serving as a resource for staff regarding established administrative policies and procedures. The selected individual will provide support to the team as a Designated Procurement Representative (DPR) and will be responsible for both P-card and purchase request procurements. The selected candidate will also assist with inventory management tasks and consumable tracking, including the organization and storage of consumables in a warehouse.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience making complex purchases using P Card, BOAs, or other approved Laboratory procurement options.
  • Proven ability to provide professional support for specialized functions, organizations, and/or programs, typically requiring the application of standard and/or established principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively under pressure of deadlines and interruptions, adapting to changing needs and priorities, following multiple tasks to completion.
  • Ability to conduct research and assemble data for assigned projects related to specialized functions, organizations, and/or programs for issues of moderately complex scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.
  • Some experience assisting in the analysis, design, and/or implementation of business, operational, and/or programmatic initiatives to promote and ensure organizational objectives.
  • Successful experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment, working independently, demonstrating initiative, as well as fine-tuned skills in organizing, prioritizing, and following through to completion multiple projects with frequent interruptions under strict deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Experience providing day-to-day professional staff support while maintaining progress on long-term tasks.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications to develop presentations and communication aids.
  • Demonstrated successful experience collaborating with institutional support services and customers.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently while maintaining excellent quality in daily operational work.
  • Commitment to consistent on-site attendance.


Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Undergraduate coursework may be expected at this level.

Desired Qualifications:

  • A higher degree (e.g. MBA) and/or additional years of experience are a significant plus
  • Experience maintaining electronic records
  • P Card Holder

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
