Responsibilities:
Work Schedule: Shifts worked can be days, evening or night shift depending on the need as well as 8, 10 or 12-hour shifts. We have staff in-house 24/7, however our cases run on a block schedule typically 7a-430p Monday to Friday with urgent or emergent cases in the off hours. New hires are typically hired as 8-hour day shift nurses and then we can adjust hours once orientation is complete and as unit needs dictate. Staff are scheduled to work weekends, and that rotation is about every 6-7 weekends on averages depending on current unit staffing levels. Staff cover call shifts as well with the typical expectation as one call shift per week, with varied hours again based off unit needs. Staff are expected to work at least one holiday per year and take call for one holiday per year depending on unit staffing needs and current staffing guidelines.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
UPMC approved national certification preferred. Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse either in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. Graduate nurses must complete licensure examination within SIX MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first. Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until the results of the examination are known at which time it becomes null and void, UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within 6 months of their start date or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU.
