Position Description:

Professional Tutors support students in group tutoring sessions and 1-1 appointments for the course(s) for which they are hired. Tutors guide students in understanding their course resources, connecting ideas together and to real-life experiences, and applying information and skills to problems and scenarios.

We are currently seeking a tutor to support the following courses:

NURS 326 Care of Pediatric Patients This course utilizes a family centered approach to focus on health promotion, illness prevention, safety and acute and chronic illness health conditions in the pediatric population.

*ASDNURS 328 Care of Childbearing Families This course is designed to provide nursing students with a comprehensive understanding of maternal and newborn health. Emphasizing family-centered care, the course prepares nursing students to provide holistic care to childbearing families during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Students will apply their clinical skills in simulation and in maternity clinical settings.

*ASDNURS 406 Care of Populations & Individuals II This course continues discussion of current public health topics begun in NURS 404 - Nursing Care of Populations and Individuals in the Community I and adds the role of nurse in providing care to patients in the community.

NURS 417 Mgmt of Complex Health Problems The focus of this course is holistic professional Nursing practice through synthesis, analysis and application of knowledge. Increase in clinical competence is gained through integration of empirical and professional knowledge, clinical and cognitive skills and professional values and behaviors. Based on the synthesis of knowledge the student will continue to provide comprehensive nursing care to patients, families and the community.

Hours: Tutors generally work 2-6 hours a week depending on the number of courses they support. Days and times vary based on the tutor's and students' schedule. The CAE is open Monday to Thursday 9am-8pm and Friday from 9am to 5pm.

All new tutors will attend a paid 8-hour pre-semester training and 2.5 hours of professional development meetings a month.

Desired Skills:

  • Strong academic skills and content knowledge
  • Earned Bachelor's degree or higher with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Have a solid foundation in relevant content with a A in the course(s) or a closely related course they will support
  • Excellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate comfortably with students, faculty, and colleagues
  • Exhibits a high level of professionalism, leadership, creative problem solving, and collaboration
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, to build strong relationships with students, faculty, and staff
  • Ability to complete job responsibilities effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Competency in MS Office Suite, experience with Microsoft Teams is preferred
  • Ability to adapt to new software

Compensation: Compensation for tutors is $20 per hour worked.
