General Summary
Asa Professional Tutor, your main role in the Learning Resources Center (LRC) is to support students, observe and respond to student issues by facilitating problem-solving strategies adapted to the visitors' needs. Professional Tutors assist and coach other students in becoming a more successful and independent learner. Provide and help integrate effective learning and study strategies, while at the same time helping to clarify and/or reinforce course content, assignments, and material.
Specific Position Duties • Provide individualized content and skill-development tutoring to students and community users. • Create and maintain a tutoring schedule convenient to both tutor and LRC department. • Make appropriate student referrals to college offices, departments or professionals, when necessary. • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of each tutoring session. • Use active listening strategies, attend and complete tutor training and development sessions. • Develop a good understanding and knowledge of college services, supports, and resources. • Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information, material, and discussions shared in the tutoring relationship. • Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students' diverse cultures, language skills and experiences.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's Degree • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. • Friendly demeanor that projects accessibility and tenacity to problem solve with the student or community user. • Prefer positive instructor referral/recommendation for course(s) being tutored. • Provide feedback to students using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence in students.
