Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 111.
Job Summary
The Department of Social Work at Albany State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Professor/Associate Professor. The start date for this position is July 1, 2025. The ideal candidate for this position will serve as Department Chair and share the departments goals of educating students to excel educationally, and to advance the values and tenets of Social Work. The candidate must also be thoroughly familiar with CSWE Board of Accreditation standards and processes. The candidate will teach two graduate courses in Social Work and devote the rest of the time towards executing the administrative responsibilities. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Responsibilities
As the chief administrative and academic officer of the department, the Chair has authority and responsibility for the delivery of academic programs in accordance with departmental, college, and university strategic plans; hiring and evaluation of department personnel, including faculty and staff; and budgeting and resource management. The authority is subject to approval by the Dean and Provost. As a member of the College administration, the Chair coordinates departmental activity with the activities of other units in the College and University and in collaboration with other members of the administration as well as assists in the development and implementation of College initiatives. The responsibilities of the chairperson cover six key areas: (1) Academic Planning, (2) Personnel, (3) Students, (4) Budget, (5) Space and Equipment, and (6) General operations. The Department Chairs are appointed on a rotational basis, and renewal is based upon a review of the administrator evaluations received by the faculty of the unit, with the recommendation of the Dean. Each year, the Department Chair is recommended to the President for reappointment or non-reappointment by the Provost.

As a member of the faculty, the candidate will follow the requirements in the faculty handbook for promotion, tenure, and post-tenure. The successful candidate will adhere to the four-year chair rotation policy of the university.
