Description

Reporting to the campus Academic Dean, the primary role of this full-time instructional position is to provide college-level instruction and instruction-related activities designed to encourage, support, and enable students success. The ESOL Instructor provides face-to-face instruction to teacher candidates obtaining the Florida ESOL Endorsement in the Bachelor of Education Programs. The role focuses on preparing educators to effectively support English Language Learners (ELLs) through evidence-based instructional strategies and alignment with Florida Department of Education ESOL competencies and standards. Responsibilities include course facilitation, assessment of candidate performance, and support in applying ESOL strategies within K-12 classroom settings. In addition, this Faculty member will support non-native English speakers in developing the academic language skills necessary for success in college-level coursework through the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program.

Essential Functions/Duties

  • Teach courses in accordance with published course descriptions, schedules, procedures, and course outlines.
  • Work with the campus dean, associate dean, department chairs and other faculty and staff as appropriate to assess and modify course and program goals, objectives, methods, and content.
  • Conduct on-going evaluation of student progress and maintain records of student course/class performance.
  • Prepare and submit grade reports and other reports on student performance as may be scheduled or required.
  • Conduct class evaluations and complete other college evaluations in accordance with college policy.
  • Maintain a high level of expertise in the subjects taught.
  • Develop and deliver engaging lessons aligned with course outcomes and student learning objectives.
  • Utilize modern instructional methods, multimedia resources, online platforms, and college resources to support student success.
  • Assess student progress through assignments, projects, participation, exams, and other evaluation methods.
  • Provide academic support, feedback, and guidance to students.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance in accordance with College policies.
  • Foster an inclusive, supportive, and academically rigorous classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with faculty, advisors, and student support services to promote retention and student achievement.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, professional development, and institutional initiatives as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The compensation (pay level) for this position is based upon the degree level attained and years of experience in the specific discipline (Step 10 is the maximum step for an incoming faculty member). Typical Qualifications

Required Skills:

Working Conditions/Additional Information

  • This position is an on-campus position located at our campus. (Remote/hybrid options are not available.)
  • Weekend and evening work may be required.
  • Position may be required to work during college closures (such as winter/spring break and inclement weather closures).
  • Travel to seminars and conferences required.

Required Education:

  • Master's degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in any appropriate combination of the following fields or related fields:

  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

  • Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Kindergarten through Grade 12

  • Elementary Education with an ESOL endorsement

  • Early Childhood Education with an ESOL endorsement

  • Professional Florida Teacher Certification in Early Childhood (Pre-kindergarten through Grade 3) with an ESOL Endorsement, or Professional Florida Teacher Certification in Elementary Education (Kindergarten through Grade 6) with an ESOL Endorsement, Kindergarten through Grade 12.

Required Experience:

  • At least three years' experience in teaching at the Early Childhood (Pre-kindergarten through Grade 3) level or Elementary (Kindergarten through Grade 6) level.

Teaching experience is preferred.
