The faculty member will be in charge of the education of dental students in Dental Neurosciences and Pharmacology courses, and it is expected to exhibit a strong dedication to their subject as well as a high level of professionalism. Their duties include teaching, counselling students, research and creative endeavors, service and cooperative extension, and some administrative functions as assigned by the Chair.

Daily Operations

  • Provide coordination for the D1 Dental Neurosciences course.
  • Coordinate the D2 Pharmacology course.
  • Provide Integrated National Board Dental Examination (INBDE) reviews in Dental Neurosciences and Pharmacology.
  • Coordination of interprofessional instruction in basic and clinical sciences courses.
  • Serve on various committees of the Dental School and the College as assigned by the Dean.

Required Skills

  • Expertise in comprehensively understanding pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, toxicology, and pharmacotherapeutics.
  • Expertise in comprehensively understanding how the nervous system works in the care and management of pain in the dental patient.
  • Must be adept at employing a range of pedagogical techniques to facilitate learning. This involves designing course curricula that combine theoretical lectures with practical, hands-on laboratory sessions, often utilizing cadavers, anatomical models, and advanced imaging technologies.
  • Play a crucial role in shaping future oral healthcare providers by providing rigorous training and fostering an environment that encourages critical thinking and scientific inquiry.
  • May engage in research activities to further the science of pharmacology and neuroscience and contribute to academic publications.
  • Must incorporate pharmacological concepts in didactic courses and clinical applications.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Preferred:

o Must be able to convey factual knowledge of pharmacology that emphasize the practical applications of pharmacological principles in clinical settings.

o Must be able to clearly convey foundational concepts in dental neuroscience, with a focus on applying neuroscience principles to support clinical decision-making and patient care.

o Must be committed to inspiring a passion for lifelong learning in future oral healthcare providers and a commitment to excellence in the oral healthcare profession.

Education and Experience Required:

  • A master's degree or Ph. D. in related disciplines.
  • Five years of relevant experience working in a university/college setting and three to five years of relevant experience teaching human anatomy.

Education and Experience Preferred:

o Ph.D/Master's degree in pharmacology.
