The Department of Criminology and Justice at Loyola University New Orleans invites applications for a Professor of Practice position beginning Fall 2026. This is a full-time, nine-month instructional appointment for the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters.

Loyola University New Orleans is a private Jesuit institution located in the heart of New Orleans, committed to educating the whole person and preparing students to lead meaningful lives with and for others. The Department of Criminology and Justice emphasizes applied learning, critical inquiry, social justice, and professional preparation in criminal justice, criminology, forensic science, law enforcement, and related fields.

This position is designed for a practitioner-scholar or experienced professional who can bring substantial real-world expertise into the classroom while supporting student success through advising and mentorship.

Examples of Duties

Primary Responsibilities

• Teach a 4-4 course load (four courses in Fall 2026 and four courses in Spring 2027)
• Deliver instruction in both on-ground and online modalities
• Teach undergraduate courses in Criminology and Justice, depending on departmental needs
• Courses may include introductory and upper-level offerings in areas such as:
• Criminology
• Criminal Justice Systems
• Policing
• Corrections
• Criminal Law
• Special Topics in Applied Criminal Justice
• Maintain regular office hours and provide academic mentorship to students
• Carry an advising load and assist students with academic planning, registration, retention, and professional development
• Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum support, and collaborative service activities that strengthen the student experience
• Support Loyola's mission of Jesuit education through inclusive teaching, ethical leadership, and student-centered engagement
• Other duties as assigned

Typical Qualifications

• Master's degree or terminal degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, or a closely related field
• Significant professional or applied experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, corrections, forensic investigation, policy, prosecution, victim services, intelligence analysis, or related professional practice
• Demonstrated teaching ability or strong potential for excellence in undergraduate instruction
• Ability to teach effectively in both face-to-face and online learning environments
• Strong commitment to student advising, mentorship, and academic success

Campus crime statistics as defined under this law for the last three calendar years are included. A copy of this report may be secured from the (Office of Admissions), (Office of Human Resources), or from the University Police Department.
