Description

The Environmental Science & Studies Department at Stonehill College invites applications for a full-time Professor of Practice faculty position with a focus in Environmental Health and Environmental Justice, beginning Fall 2027. We seek a colleague whose teaching engages the intersections of environmental science, public health, and social equity, someone who can help students understand not only the mechanisms of environmental harm, but who bears its burdens, and why.

The department supports a B.A. in Environmental Studies, a B.S. in Environmental Science, a 3+2 Environmental Engineering Dual Degree with the University of Notre Dame, and an affiliated minor.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses spanning environmental health, environmental justice, environmental writing, and related topics across the B.A. and B.S. curricula.
  • The successful candidate will teach four classes each semester. The courses will likely be a mix of general education classes and those designed for upper-level ENV majors.
  • Collaborate with ENV, Nursing, and Health Science faculty as well as the Stonehill Farm on environmental health issues.
  • Develop a dedicated focus in Environmental Health within the department.
  • Mentor and advise undergraduate students, including potential supervision of community-engaged and place-based research.
  • Contribute to departmental governance, curriculum development, and college-wide service.

Typical Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Environmental Health, Public Health, or a closely related field.
  • Commitment to undergraduate teaching and mentorship in a liberal arts setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive teaching and to working with a diverse student body.
  • Experience or interest in interdisciplinary collaboration with nursing, public health, or health science programs.
