Tulane University School of Law invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, faculty position as Professor of the Practice of Law, teaching in the Academic Success program and reporting to the Director of Academic Success. This appointment will qualify as a position on the Law School's Professor of the Practice (POP) track, with an initial contract of three to five years, renewable pursuant to University and Law School standards.
The Academic Success program plays a vital role in supporting student achievement during law school and supporting the years of bar exam preparation by graduates. Tulane is a national law school, with approximately one-third of our students taking the Louisiana bar exam and two-thirds taking the bar exam in common law jurisdictions. The POP will teach a minimum of two courses annually--initially focused on preparing students in their final year for common law bar exams. The common law courses will supplement any commercial bar preparation courses that students may choose to take. More specifically, the POP's courses will provide instruction that is targeted at legal analysis, essay writing, multiple-choice strategies, and jurisdiction-specific content. In addition to classroom teaching, the POP will conduct academic support programming year-round, which will include individualized academic coaching. The POP also will collaborate with faculty and administrative leaders to develop programming that supports students who bring a range of backgrounds and experiences to their law school courses and their bar exam preparation. This POP position will report directly to the Director of Academic Success and work closely with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, and other student-facing leaders.
