ACADEMIC AFFAIRS ANNOUNCES AN OPENING IN THE LIBERAL ARTS AND SCIENCES DIVISION

POSITION:  Professor, Political Science

Description of Duties:

Primarily responsible for teaching fifteen (15) credit hours per semester of introductory political science and other lower division political science courses. In addition to teaching courses in a traditional classroom setting, fully online, and as a flex-hybrids at Rose State, work could include teaching concurrent high school classes via distance education. Reports to the Division Dean. Maintain a minimum twenty-seven and one-half hour per week assignment on campus. The minimum assignment includes teaching an equated 15 credit hours of instruction and fifteen clock hours that include office hours and other College-related duties. Cultivate and maintain professional relationships. Deliver effective instruction. Maintain records in accordance with College and division policies. Participate in services to the College and the local community. Collaborate with colleagues in the development of new program and course offerings, relationships with four-year institutions for student transfer, and micro credential offerings. Perform other related duties in the Division as assigned by the Dean. Has no regularly assigned supervisory duties or responsibilities. Work under general supervision. Receive training and guideline from the Division Dean and/or Associate Dean. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's Degree in political science or Master's Degree and eighteen (18) graduate hours in political science. Two (2) years recent experience teaching college-level political science. Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to use flexible delivery methods to accommodate individual learning styles. Learner-centered teaching skills. Proficiency with computers and MS Office (Word and Outlook), video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, and Learning Management Systems such as Canvas. Light lifting up to 10 lbs. and light carrying up to 10 lbs. required. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Ability to drive or provide other transportation among campuses if needed.

Desired Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in political science. Four (4) years recent experience teaching college-level political science courses at a community college. One (1) year of experience teaching political science classes in a high school or concurrent high school program.
