Small Animal Veterinary Internal Medicine Assistant Associate or Full Professor

The Lyon College School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications and nominations for a faculty position in Small Animal Internal Medicine non-tenure track Assistant Associate or Full Professor. We are seeking a dynamic faculty committed to advancing excellence in veterinary education, fostering a culture of innovation and promoting academic success among our students. Furthermore, we are pursuing an innovative, creative, and collaborative faculty to engage within an inspired academic community to reimagine and transform veterinary medical education, aimed at creating a vibrant learning ecosystem that graduates not only career-ready but future-ready veterinarians to meet the ever-evolving healthcare needs of the 21st Century and beyond.

Primary Responsibilities ------------------------

  • Teaching: Small animal medicine
  • Service: Varying with individual preferences and program needs
  • Scholarly activities: Depend upon the goals of the individual and time assignment to scholarship

A typical time assignment is 75% teaching, 20% scholarly activities, and 5% service. Alternative hiring models, including part-time non-benefit eligible positions, will be considered.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position ------------------------------------------

### Education and Mentorship

  • Provide innovative education, mentorship, and guidance to all students in a variety of settings, including the classroom, laboratory, simulation center, and Cabot Animal Support Services in the discipline of veterinary medicine.

### Animal Welfare and Shelter Services

  • Play a critical role in promoting the health and welfare of animals within a shelter environment, including high-quality surgical and medical care to small animals, support of population management, promotion of public health, and collaboration within the shelter program.

### Student Assessment and Feedback

  • Participate in student assessment, feedback, and remediation to ensure that students meet LCSVMs high academic standards in the areas of knowledge, skills, and abilities.

### Curriculum Development and Delivery

  • Participate in curriculum development, delivery, assessment, and enhancement.

### Community Outreach and Service

  • Provide service to Lyon College and the greater community by serving on committees, participating in community outreach events, and working with professional organizations and groups.

### Continuing Professional Education

  • Maintain discipline and teaching expertise through continuing professional education.

### Scholarly Activity

  • Engage in scholarly activity, including research, authorship, presentations at conferences, innovation, entrepreneurship, and mentorship of students in their scholarly activities.

### Medical Services

  • Opportunities exist to provide medical services to partners of the veterinary school, such as private practices.

### Promoting the Mission

  • Promote the mission of LCSVM to all faculty, staff, students, and to the local, state, national, and international communities as appropriate.

### Culture of Academic Creativity and Innovation

  • Contribute to a culture of academic creativity, innovation, and collaboration that fosters student success.

### Effective Collaborative Relationships

  • Promote effective, collaborative, inclusive working relationships among faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders.

### Advancing Andragogy and Pedagogy

  • Advance the principles of andragogy and pedagogy throughout LCSVM.

### Other Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

### Rank

  • Full Associate or Assistant Professor, depending upon qualifications and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities -------------------------------

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the delivery of veterinary medical education, including an understanding of the principles of andragogy and pedagogy and their application in a professional curriculum.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the area of expertise.
  • Demonstrated record of advancing innovation and creativity in learning and scholarly pursuits.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Record of successfully contributing to collaborative teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented success.

Qualifications --------------

  • DVM or equivalent degree
  • Board Certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine or another relevant ABVS specialty, such as ABVP, or progress towards specialty certification.
  • Preferred: Masters degree and/or doctoral degree.
  • Prior experience teaching within a veterinary or medical school.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in educational and/or professional settings.
  • Demonstrated scholarly activities in education, innovation, entrepreneurship, and/or medical research.

Position Location -----------------

The position will be based at the new Lyon College School of Veterinary Medicine in Cabot, Arkansas. The LCSVM is co-located with Cabot Animal Support Services (CASS), a local, state, and national model for shelter medicine, animal welfare, community relations, and education.
