The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University''s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Program Manager provides management for training programs for allied research personnel (ARP) at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Operating out of the education and workforce development arm of the Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (TRANSFORM), the Program Manager for ARP will report to the Associate Director of Workforce Development and Training Strategy. Together with the Director of Clinical Research Initiatives, the Program Manager will continue a long-standing partnership with the VP&S Dean's People Organization and Development (POD) team and institutional offices to identify, develop, demonstrate, disseminate, and continuously evaluate training for research staff.

The Program Manager operates with a high degree of independence and accountability, translating research priorities into actionable project plans, mitigating risk, coordinating resources, and ensuring alignment with institutional and regulatory requirements, as well as national best practices. The Program Manager should demonstrate strong peer leadership and collaborative project management skills, as the role requires coordinating across offices to develop new CUIMC trainings and update existing training offerings

The role serves as a potential growth opportunity for clinical research managers looking for a career pivot towards training and institutional strategy. Future training areas may encompass other career pathways, such as regulatory, research data management, and more, all of which a seasoned CRM or training manager would bring valuable operational insight.

Responsibilities

Project Management

• Works collaboratively with research leadership, investigators, and operational partners within the Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research to develop and achieve milestones.
• Executes full project scope, goals and deliverables. Duties include attending meetings, performing and tracking tasks and required follow-up, reporting and coordinating with project team members and other stakeholders, manages internal/external resources, conducting research and benchmarking best practices, stakeholder engagement, setting agendas, developing communication plans, identifying risks and other barriers, and making recommendations throughout the project cycle as needed.
• Assists and provides guidance to partners with risk mitigation, barriers to successful completion of tasks, deadline disrupters, conflicting priorities, time management, resources, etc.
• Leads in the collecting and analysis of data for administrative, operational, and research-related decision making tied to assigned projects. This includes required reporting metrics for institutional funding, such as the Irving Institute's NIH-NCATS Clinical and Translational Science Award.
• Validates, analyzes, and visualizes data. Presents data/reports and status of project plan to key stakeholders and governance groups.

Training, Education and Mentorship

• Works with institutional partners to lead in curricula and course development for ARP trainings as well as events management which may include open houses, luncheons, road show presentations, poster sessions, workshops and seminars. The preliminary focus will be around clinical research coordinator trainings, events, and developing a mentorship program.
• Keeps current on all organizational, regulatory compliance and patient privacy trainings policies (e.g. infection control, public safety, EH&S, HIPAA, OSHA, etc.) and successfully complete all required trainings.
• Works collaboratively to develop and lead a comprehensive communication strategy for ARP training programs which may include drafting promotional materials, website content, and hub communications.
• Researches and benchmarks best practices and industry standards for effective ARP training programs in academic medical center and research settings. Strives to continuously identify and improve upon opportunities and trainings for ARP to improve skills, competencies and service delivery.
• Lead the gathering of data and key performance metrics of the program as well as qualitative feedback to support reporting needs, evaluation of the program activities, and recommend modifications and improvements.
• Promotes staff professionalism and performance across all trainings with coaching, training and feedback. Working with leadership the program manager will attend trainings from time to time to ensure quality, serve as a subject matter expert, model behavior and demonstrating best practices/techniques[JC1] .
• Continually analyzing training needs to propose new training programs, identify potential gaps, and increase impact on learners and the organization.

People

• Serves as the lead liaison for CUIMC ARP training development for the Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, representing program activities and strategic planning on behalf of the Associate Director of Workforce Development and Training Strategy and Director of Clinical Research Initiatives
• Facilitates ongoing activities supporting Columbia''s Clinical Research Operations and Workforce Network (CROWN) Microsoft Teams site, which was established to communicate with clinical research staff across CUIMC
• Establishes and manages relationships with diverse research teams across CUIMC including staff, faculty and research administration
• Working on institutional training programs, the Program Manager will skillfully lead multi-disciplinary groups of peers and subject matter experts to identify, develop, demonstrate, disseminate and continuously evaluate and improve all trainings.

• Must successfully complete systems training requirements.
• Performs other tasks as required and assigned within scope of work.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor''s Degree or equivalent of education and experience.
• Minimum of 4 years of related experience.
• Demonstrated skills in facilitating trainings on various topics
• Demonstrated strong project management skills including executing technical and operational project activities with cross-functional teams.
• Excellent organizational skills, time management and the ability to set priorities among multiple competing objectives, tasks and initiatives is required.
• Demonstrated proficiency in problem assessment, and resolution and collaborative problem solving in complex, and interdisciplinary settings.
• Ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and respectful manner while appreciating the unique contributions of an inclusive workforce that brings together the talents of people across multiple identities.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
• Ability to work independently and follow-through and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Working proficiency of Microsoft Office (Word & Excel) or similar software is required and an ability and willingness to learn new systems and programs.
• Must be a motivated individual with a positive mindset and exceptional work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

• 6-10 years of training experience in clinical research fields (e.g., clinical research coordinators, data management, regulatory affairs, bioethics)
• Familiarity with Columbia health and research systems.
• Experience with electronic medical records and/or research data entry, including Epic, REDCap, Qualtrics, iLab, or OpenSpecimen
• PMP or similar coursework/certification preferred
