Program Analyst (Artificial Intelligence)
As a Program Analyst (Artificial Intelligence), GS-0343-14/15, your typical work assignments may include the following:
- Supports federal-wide efforts to assess agency artificial intelligence (AI) challenges and work proactively to address such challenges through policy creation and implementation.
- Reviews both agency-specific and federal-wide AI policies, procedures, programs, and budgets through detailed qualitative and quantitative analyses and working with relevant leadership to close gaps.
- Supports external engagements regarding agency use of AI.
- Reviews AI legislation in order to suggest changes and provide information regarding federal AI issues to White House leadership and briefing Congress on the state of federal AI.
- Coordinates with relevant OMB Resource Management Offices (RMOs) to take necessary budgetary actions to advance the responsible use of AI while adequately managing its risks.
- Engages with the Chief AI Officers Council and interagency committees related to AI.
- Oversees the performance of agencies providing AI guidance and assistance; such as NIST and the General Services Administration.
- Reviews agency AI activities, including through agencies' reporting on their AI use cases, and coordinates with other OMB staff to adequately address agencies' relevant risks and issues.
- Updates reporting guidance to agencies, aiding interpretation of such guidance, and reviewing corresponding agency submissions.
- Responsible for direct engagement with an agency's CIO and team to conduct oversight and support implementation efforts within their overall IT portfolio.
- Preparing and/or analyzing written federal policy analyses and policy option papers.
- Communicates complex technical requirements to non-technical personnel and to prepare and present briefings to senior management officials on complex/controversial issues.
- Establishes and oversees mechanisms to remove barriers to agencies' use of AI and to manage risks specific to the use of AI, such as discrimination or unsafe decision making.
