The CPUC is hiring a Program and Project Supervisor to lead a statewide team overseeing California's transportation licensing for passenger carriers, ride-hailing companies, autonomous vehicle passenger services, buses, ferries, and other transportation providers. This position oversees the Transportation Licensing Section, guiding staff responsible for permitting, compliance, safety-related filings, customer service, database operations, and regulatory support for CPUC-jurisdictional transportation carriers.

The incumbent will develop staff, direct complex analytical work, improve procedures, and coordinate with Commission leadership, government agencies, regulated carriers, vendors, and the public to support effective transportation regulation across California.

Essential Duties:

  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate statewide analyst and administrative staff responsible for transportation licensing and compliance activities.
  • Plan and direct unit operations, including permitting, ratemaking, insurance, safety compliance, customer service, user fees, records requests, and database administration.
  • Establish priorities, procedures, training, and guidance to ensure consistent and effective program administration.
  • Review complex regulatory work products for accuracy, quality, policy consistency, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate with Commission staff, government agencies, regulated carriers, vendors, and other stakeholders on program operations and regulatory issues.
  • Support legislative, policy, and management activities related to CPUC-jurisdictional transportation services.

  • Experience with the Public Utilities Code, Public Utilities Commission General Orders, Commission Decisions, and/or the policy and political issues affecting the CPUC.
