At South Dakota State University (SDSU) 4-H Programs, we are dedicated to providing youth with supportive adults, hands-on learning experiences, and opportunities to reach their full potential. We're seeking a collaborative, people-focused professional who is passionate about mentoring, guiding, and helping others grow.

SDSU Extension 4‑H is a community that provides experiences where young people learn by doing. Kids complete hands-on projects in areas like health, science, agriculture and citizenship, in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. Kids experience 4‑H through in-school and after-school programs, school and community clubs and 4‑H camps. We recognize that the youth of today are our future leaders and what they learn and experience in 4-H will help them develop into contributing citizens who will give back to their communities in the future.

This position is located in Murdo and White River, South Dakota.

Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Job Responsibilities: Provide timely 4-H Youth Development research based information, resources, education, leadership and support to meet the needs of youth in the county and/or reservation while building relationships to enhance and carry out the mission of SDSU Extension.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Computer systems and software (i.e., MS Word, Outlook, Excel);
  • Planning, teaching, and evaluating educational programs for a variety of youth audiences; and
  • Supervisory techniques.

Skill & Ability to:

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal communication skills;
  • Use effective written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills;
  • Work as a contributing member of a team;
  • Plan events and manage a budget; and
  • Collaborate on funding proposals or grants to support new and/or enhanced programming.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Child, Youth, or Human Development, or other relevant fields with relevant youth development experience;
  • Previous 4-H or similar youth development experience;
  • Demonstrated use of technology in managing and/or delivering educational programs; and
  • Experience in publishing materials and/or curricula.

Required License: Valid driver's license
