Program Assistant (Whiz Kids)

Program Assistants support the daily operations of summer Whiz Kid youth Camps by assisting instructors, supervising transitions, supporting students, and ensuring smooth logistics throughout the day. This role does not involve teaching or curriculum delivery. The Whiz Kids Program Assistants will generally work one 4-hour shift per day.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Related duties may be assigned:

  • Serve as a floater between classrooms or be assigned to a specific classroom depending on program needs
  • Assist instructors with non-instructional needs, including distributing materials and supplies and troubleshooting minor issues (technology setup, room readiness)
  • Provide supplemental support to students as directed by the instructor
  • Student supervision & engagement
  • Support student check-in
  • Supervise students during lunch periods and movement across campus
  • Maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment at all times
  • Gather and distribute morning and afternoon supplies for classes
  • Assist with printing, copying, and material preparation
  • Monitor shared spaces (hallways, lunchroom) to ensure student safety and appropriate behavior
  • Respond promptly to instructor or program coordinator requests
  • Report issues, concerns or incidents to supervisory staff
  • Assist with lunchtime supervision during assigned periods: 12:00-1:00
  • Maintain professionalism when interacting with students, family, instructors, and staff
  • Follow all college and youth program policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate reliability, flexibility, and clear communication
  • Be proactive, observant, and responsible to the needs of the program

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience working with youth ages 5-14 as a caregiver, coach, tutor, etc.
  • Enjoy working with youth in a variety of settings.
  • A sense of professionalism and willingness to communicate with other staff as well as parents in accordance with FERPA guidelines.
  • Two years of high school
  • Age 16+

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a classroom setting and occasionally works outside.
