Program Coordinator

$3,625 per month

Description: The Program Coordinator will work with The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) reentry staff, UHCL Department of Career Services, and community partners to provide tailored support for students. In addition, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for seeking additional external funding for the program in collaboration with the Transforming Lives by Degrees (TLD) program Director, and they will work with the Senior Academic Advisor to facilitate the completion of Pell and other financial aid paperwork, along with post-release paperwork (or e-applications) for community services and benefits. The Program Coordinator will be expected to visit with TLD students in person at Ramsey Prison at least twice a month.

  • This is a full-time, grant funded position. Continuation of the position is dependent upon future funding.

Duties:

• Develop community partnerships with local organizations to assist in TLDs re-entry transition. • Collaborate with the TLD Director to seek extramural funding for the TLD program. • Develop relationships with TDCJ Reentry Staff and Windham School District. • Partner with UHCL Career Services and other UHCL areas to design support and professional development opportunities for TLD students and alumni. • Collaborate with Senior Academic Advisor to provide support to TLD students, particularly support related to financial aid applications and registration processes.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree • Has been justice-impacted or has worked to provide supports for justice-impacted individuals

Preferred Qualifications:

• Masters degree • Three years or more of experience working with or within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of challenges and barriers encountered by incarcerated students • Ability to conduct assessment and grant reporting • Skills in Microsoft Office • Knowledge of the application process for Pell Grants and other forms of financial aid • Ability to complete state reporting • Knowledge of how to submit and apply for grant and foundation funding • Knowledge of carcel environment and the transition pathways into open society • Ability to communicate well in both oral and written form as well as to collaborate and work well on a team • Ability to work within and between large bureaucratic operations (e.g., TDCJ, UHCL, SACSCOC, DoE)
