    Job Description

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Administering the overall operation of the office of the Human Trafficking Academy;
    • Preparing and coordinating the annual work program of the Academy;
    • Researching and suggesting topics and present respective concept note for the annual one-week certificate, immersion-style training of the Academy, designing the fifteen mini-course of its curriculum, identifying experts, and in cooperation with the Director securing their participation;
    • Compiling budget submissions for individual events, and administering funds;
    • Focusing on fundraising and grant applications to ensure sustainability of the Academy;
    • Monitoring local, national and global human trafficking developments in law, policy and practice to design activities such as training and the respective course curriculum, conferences, seminars, workshops, outreach events etc.;
    • Keeping special focus on survivor engagement and empowerment;
    • Developing and implementing projects, including research projects, and supervising the respective project staff in the implementation of the corresponding activities;
    • Maintaining contacts with the government institutions dedicated to human trafficking to identify funds, joint activities and projects for implementation;
    • Maintaining contacts with relevant international organizations, NGOs, sub-regional initiatives to promote the exchange of information, expertise and assistance, including funding, and to develop and implement joint projects and co-operative mechanisms;
    • Representing St. Thomas University John J. Brunetti Human Trafficking Academy, as assigned by the Director, in meetings and other events, holding discussions with local and national government officials to enlist their support of the Academy's activities;
    • Representing the Academy, as assigned by the Director, at conferences, training courses and meetings with visitors and journalists and explore opportunities for media appearances of the Director, and the members of the International Council on Human Trafficking (ICHT);
    • Act as Academy's contact point for public enquiries and the media in relation to human trafficking issues, and distribute responsibility accordingly;
    • Providing substantive advice in the organization of the College of Law's events on human trafficking, and the procedures to be followed in the preparation and realization of these events; proposing speakers, discussing the topic/ content of their presentations, assessing the outcomes and recommending follow-up actions to contribute to solving problems;
    • Ensuring data keeping of all events of the academy to collect impact metrics and outcomes;
    • Ensuring monitoring and participant evaluation of all events sponsored and organized by the Academy;
    • Procuring advertising opportunities, preparing advertising materials;
    • Maintaining up to date website content, and respective social media presence;
    • Performing other related duties as required by the Director and the ICHT;
    • Help in the set up of decorum for events; have ability to carry light weight as needed to manage office and education materials.

    SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS

    • Administrative Assistant of the Academy
    • Graduate Fellows (and Consultants if/ when applicable)

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED

    • The Program Coordinator reports to the Director of the Human Trafficking Academy.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Advanced university degree, evidencing substantial knowledge of international relations, human rights, and social sciences;
    • Knowledge and experience of principles of project management, including budgeting;
    • Experience with team leadership/staff supervision;
    • Five years of professional experience, including a number of years at the national level in the application of policy and law (experience at international level is an added asset);
    • Recognized interest in research (publication record preferred), especially with a focus on human rights/human trafficking/international law/ public policy;
    • Familiarity with the activities of major national and international human rights and governmental institutions, in the field of human trafficking:
    • Proven managerial, day-to-day problem-solving, negotiation and interpersonal skills;
    • Ability to supervise staff and handle administrative matters in a small-sized office setting;
    • Professional fluency in English, with excellent writing, communication and drafting skills; knowledge of other languages, particularly Spanish, would be an asset;
    • Computer literate in major programs and software;
    • Ability to work in a team, to establish and maintain external partnerships as well as effective and constructive working relationships with people of different national and cultural backgrounds while maintaining impartiality and objectivity.
