Position Summary:

This is a split full-time position between Y READS and Team Up at the same location. Employee will serve as Site Lead for the Y READS program during the first part of the shift, and Assistant Site Lead for the TEAM UP afterschool program during the second part of the shift. During the summer, employee will be Assistant Site Lead for the TEAM UP summer camp program during the entire shift.

Y READS SITE LEAD:

  • Responsible for supervision of all YREADS site assistants/youth leaders, volunteers and mentors.
  • Plan and implement appropriate daily lesson/mentoring plan and support volunteers/mentors in carrying out activities.
  • Train YMCA staff and sub-contractor staff on management of YMCA READS! Program management, as well as literacy skills, volunteer recruitment and retention.
  • Manage volunteer recruitment training for YMCA READS! Program volunteers/mentors.
  • Establish community and corporate relationships in order to promote the program
  • Create and implement volunteer/mentor training to assist Program Director.
  • Organize and present events and activities aimed at volunteer/mentor retention and appreciation.
  • Develop Ideas Family Nights and communication to encourage family support of the program objectives and to build strong families.
  • Form relationships with principal, guidance staff and reading specialists at program school sites to promote a team approach to youth mentoring.
  • Maintains client and staff confidentiality.
  • Communicate and promote the YMCA mission, goals and objectives to the legislature, employees, volunteers, members and the community at large.
  • Prepare or help prepare budget and ensure operations are within the approved budget. Maintain accurate records.
  • Participate, as directed, in corporate assignments, annual fundraising, special projects, etc.
  • Ensure all governmental, YMCA, and organizational records and reporting requirements are in compliance.
  • Ensures all First Coast YMCA standards and best practices are implemented and followed.
  • Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention.
  • Ensures the health and safety of all members/guests.
  • Inspect physical space to ensure the safety, orderliness, sanitation and cleanliness of facilities.
  • Demonstrates compliance with YMCA Child Abuse Prevention and Abuse Risk Management policies.

ASSISTANT SITE LEAD:

  • Assists Site Director with monitoring all aspects of daily operations to ensure compliance with licensure and policy/ procedure requirements.
  • Assist Site Director with supervising/scheduling staff to ensure adequate supervision of children and effective implementation of scheduled activities.
  • Assists Site Director with maintaining and ensures compliance with written activity schedules, menus, fire drill schedules, incident/accident reports, and other forms of parent and staff communications.
  • Assists Site Director with planning and implementing a curriculum of developmentally appropriate activities in conjunction with staff, colleagues and supervisors.
  • Attends regular meetings with staff, supervisors and colleagues.
  • Ensures efficient implementation of planned activities.
  • Facilitates collections and the provision of financial aid in a responsible and consistent manner as assigned.
  • Fosters positive relations with staff, colleagues, supervisors, children/participants, parents/guardians, and the community
  • Solicits feedback from children/participants and responding appropriately to concerns in a proactive manner.
  • Develops individualized plans for children/participants for personal growth in conjunction with parents and other concerned adults.
  • Effectively represents the YMCA as a key staff member.
  • Models appropriate behaviors for staff under supervision.
  • Remains abreast of any changes in requirements/policies and procedures through regular communication with supervisors and attendance at ALL scheduled meetings.
  • Demonstrates a high level of professional ethics through fair and consistent implementation of all YMCA policies and procedures and licensure requirements with staff, program participants and parents.
  • Maintains current and accurate knowledge of YMCA programs, policies and procedures.
  • Take on the duties of Site Director in his/her absence.
  • Assists at other YMCA Before & Afterschool locations to train/shadow with Site Directors.
  • Fills in at other YMCA Before & Afterschool locations as Site Director-on-duty.
  • Mentors and trains new Youth Leaders.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in education, volunteer development, marketing, public relations, problem solving and mentoring.
  • Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards and completion of YMCA program specific certifications.
  • Ability to develop, train and implement quality developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team oriented.
  • Able to work in a diverse environment.
  • Flexibility, resourcefulness, high energy and adapt to changing needs.
  • Organization and time management skills necessary to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to present a positive image to staff, participants, colleagues, supervisors and the community.

  • Successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements as well as meet the Association's policies on background screening.
  • Must have a satisfactory MVR report.
