What you'll do:

Serve as a key technical contributor supporting the design, integration, modernization, and lifecycle evolution of mission-critical SATCOM systems, RF infrastructure and ground network sustainment programs. Provide systems engineering and design engineering expertise across the full engineering lifecycle, from system design through integration, testing, implementation, and customer acceptance.

The day-to-day:

Collaborate closely with Systems Engineering, Program Management, Design Engineering, Operations, Logistics, Supply Chain, Field Services and Customer organizations to develop technical solutions that improve system performance, maintainability, supportability and operational readiness. Support engineering efforts associated with Organization-Level and Depot-Level sustainment activities, technical refresh initiatives, technology insertion programs and system modernization efforts.

 

  • Update system designs, engineering solutions and implementation plans supporting satellite communications, RF systems, ground infrastructure and modernization initiatives
  • Perform systems design activities including interface definition, technical baseline management and engineering change implementation
  • Maintain technical drawings, data packages, configuration documentation, cable interconnect diagrams, rack elevations and as-built records to support system deployments and upgrades
  • Conduct technical refresh studies, lifecycle assessments and technology insertion evaluations focused on improving system performance, maintainability, supportability and operational readiness
  • Design and implement hardware, software, networking, and RF system updates supporting customer requirements, sustainment activities and maintenance strategies
  • Develop maintenance plans, procedures, acceptance criteria and verification methods while leading system integration, verification, validation, acceptance testing and certification activities
  • Analyze test results, generate technical reports and develop engineering documentation supporting customer sell-off, operational acceptance and technical baseline updates
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, logistics, field service and depot maintenance organizations to resolve technical issues and ensure successful implementation of engineering solutions
  • Support technical reviews, customer engagements, proposal activities and modernization initiatives while providing technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle
What you'll need:
  • 10+ years' experience in systems integration engineering, design engineering, integration and test, field engineering or related technical disciplines
  • Proven experience supporting Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, or other mission-critical ground antenna systems and operational environments
  • Experience designing, integrating, testing and deploying complex communications, RF, networking, satellite communications or ground-based systems
  • Knowledge of systems engineering processes including requirements management, configuration management, technical baseline control and engineering change management
  • Experience creating engineering drawings, technical documentation, system diagrams and technical data packages supporting fielded systems
  • Experience developing test plans, test procedures, verification methods and technical reports supporting system qualification, acceptance and certification activities
  • Understanding of sustainment concepts, lifecycle support planning, modernization efforts and maintainability considerations
  • Proven ability to analyze requirements, evaluate technical solutions and resolve complex engineering challenges across cross-functional organizations
  • Bachelors degree in engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent experience
  • US Government position.  U.S. Citizenship required
  • Active DoD TS/SCI security clearance
  • Ability to travel up to 30% both domestically and internationally
What will help you on the job:
  • Strong background in satellite communications systems, RF infrastructure, antenna systems, ground terminals, and network architectures
  • Experience supporting technical refresh initiatives, modernization programs, technology insertion efforts and engineering change implementation
  • Familiarity with Organization-Level and Depot-Level sustainment activities, lifecycle engineering, reliability improvement initiatives and obsolescence management
  • Experience developing engineering drawings, rack elevations, cable interconnect diagrams, network diagrams and technical baseline documentation
  • Knowledge of system integration, verification, validation, acceptance testing, certification and engineering sell-off processes
  • Experience conducting trade studies, engineering assessments, maintainability analyses and technical evaluations used to support program decisions and customer requirements
  • Experience supporting customer design reviews, technical interchange meetings, field implementations and geographically dispersed operational sites
  • Passion for solving complex engineering challenges while delivering innovative technical solutions and mission success
Salary range: $141,500.00 - $224,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $176,000.00- $264,000.00/ annually  : At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
