Class Summary

Job Description

The Program Leader will be overseeing daily operations at the new Dacula Recreation Center under the direction of the Supervisor. The position's responsibilities will include serving as a key liaison for community members and citizen inquiries, addressing questions and concerns related to recreational and athletic programs, special events, and facility rentals. The incumbent will be developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating curricula for year-round camps, youth and athletic programs, classes, and special events, for diverse populations with a focus on camps, teens, and senior adults, as well as coordinating with contract instructors and vendors to ensure quality programming.

Essential Duties

  • Supporting, scheduling, coordinating, permitting, cash handling, record keeping, reporting preparation, and overseeing the facility usage and staff
  • Aligning activities with departmental goals and the recreational needs of the community
  • Communicating upcoming programs, activities, and special events through community outreach initiatives, electronic media platforms, and other promotional channels to increase public awareness, participation, and engagement
  • Participating in required meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities to maintain knowledge, compliance, and operational effectiveness
  • Serving as a positive role model to mentor young adults to encourage participation, responsibility, and community involvement

Public Speaking

  • Addressing staff groups and individuals in a public setting to express the departments missions and goals
  • Acting as the Master of Ceremonies for events and programs
  • Acting as a liaison for Youth Athletic Associations, volunteers, vendors, contract instructors, and partner groups

Other Job Requirements/Information

  • This job requires fingerprinting.
  • This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after-hours, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and effectively with staff, management, and community members
  • Demonstration of strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and scheduling software

Grade

  • The Grade for this position is B221. The salary will be based on education and experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in parks and recreation, health and human services, or senior services

  • One year of related experience

  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, such as those listed above, will also be considered

  • Valid drivers license

  • CPR Certification (within 6 months of employment)

  • First Aid Certification (within 6 months of employment)

Preferred Qualifications, in addition to the above minimum qualifications

  • Associate degree in recreation, education, or hospitality AND
  • Two years of recreational program experience
