Program Manager – Unique Peerspectives

Reports to: Director, Community Based Services

Location: 572 South Salina Street, Syracuse, NY

Pay Rate:$22 - $24.20 Hourly

Schedule: Monday – Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Our focus is supporting individuals by ways of residential housing, mental health and clinical services, and immersing our participants in community engagement. Working closely with the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities and the Office of Mental Health, we support 27 housing locations and 3 administrative buildings.

About the Role:

We are looking for a proactive employee to provide programmatic direction and support to co-workers as they provide peer-based recovery services to program participants.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate effective program services for members utilizing person-centered practices
  • Monitor daily one on one and group programming to ensure support being offered to members is in alignment with their identified needs
  • Provides service that have been authorized under the Behavioral Health Home & Community-Based Services (BH-HCBS) waiver: Empowerment Services-Peer Supports
  • Maintain current knowledge of benefits relevant to the peer community and provides benefits counseling to Agency staff and all Agency program participants, as requested
  • Facilitate the development of self-help skills, support systems, coping strategies for members through individual and group modalities
  • In collaboration with the Director, investigate opportunities for program enhancement and development that reflect the needs of the local peer community
  • Gain and share knowledge of the goals and objectives of the mental health consumer/survivor/ex-patient movement
  • Provide education and training on consumer/survivor/ex-patient issues and perspectives to Agency and community organizations.
  • Responsible for the supervision of Peer Support Specialists
  • Collaborate with Director and HR in all personnel processes including hiring, supervision, training, evaluation, and termination for assigned program
  • Orient, train, and direct staff regarding specific job duties; ensure staff participate in required trainings
  • Provide ongoing direction, support, and regular one on one supervision to staff
  • Collaborate with property management to ensure efficient utilization and maintenance of properties; ensure that assigned sites meet NYS Office of Mental Health (OMH) standards
  • Assist the Director with establishing and maintaining positive relationships with property owners to ensure an adequate supply of appropriate facilities for program needs
  • Understand and adhere to billing requirements of Managed Care Organizations, the Office of Mental Health and other entities as applicable.
  • Maintain positive relationships with landlord and other tenants at program location as well as surrounding businesses.
  • Provide information regarding available program services of Unique Peerspectives in the community to individuals, families and groups seeking such information.

  • Maintain compliance with applicable training, rules, and regulations
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, as well as company policies

Education/Experience:

Associate degree in Human Services or a related field, required. Must have personal, lived, experience with mental health services. Bachelor degree, preferred. Will consider significant experience in lieu of a degree. Two years’ experience working with, or supporting individuals that have a mental health diagnosis, plus experience working with adults with substance use issues, preferred. Position requires good verbal and written communication skills necessary to empathize with, and effectively work with, recipients of the mental health system. Basic understanding of word processing and ability to navigate computer operating systems, required. OMH-endorsed Peer Credential, required (New York Certified Peer Specialist Certification: NYCPS). If applicant does not hold a NYCPS, must seek provisional credentialing within 6 months of hire.

Conditions of Employment:

Must have a valid NYS Driver’s license in accordance with the Agency Vehicle and Driving policy and have transportation necessary to meet departmental needs. Must have flexible schedule able to accommodate occasional early morning, evening or weekend commitments. Academy of Peer Services Certification must be completed within 6 months from date of hire and maintained throughout employment.
