Looking for a meaningful role where you can be the friendly face that makes a real difference? Join the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board's BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center as a Receptionist in Hampton, VA. In this on-site position, you'll be part of a team committed to providing supportive services to individuals living with a developmental disability, substance use disorder, mental health diagnosis , or who may be experiencing a mental health crisis. This is more than just a front desk job - it's an opportunity to support individuals in a role where your presence truly matters.

This role is a great match for Receptionists and Administrative Assistants who enjoy creating a welcoming environment while building valuable experience in the behavioral health field. It's also ideal for Return-to-Work Individuals who want a professional, stable, and people-first workplace. We offer a full benefits package for full-time positions, including Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts, Paid Time Off, Employee Discounts, and membership in the Virginia Retirement System - all within a culture that values balance, growth, and purpose.

ABOUT US

Since 1971, the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided the highest quality of behavioral health services to residents of the cities of Hampton and Newport News, Virginia, offering a comprehensive array of programs for both children and adults living with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders.

We proudly opened the BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center in April 2025 to increase access to services for individuals experiencing behavioral health crises. BJ Roberts is designed to serve individuals experiencing acute mental health crises. It offers a range of urgent care services, including therapy, medication management, suicide prevention, and crisis intervention. Unlike traditional emergency rooms, the facility emphasizes a peaceful and therapeutic atmosphere.

WHAT'S YOUR DAY LIKE?

As a Receptionist, you're the first impression - the person who sets the tone when someone walks through the door or picks up the phone. Whether it's a client, visitor, or public official, you'll be there to greet them with professionalism, warmth, and care. Your day will include answering and directing calls through a multiline phone system, keeping accurate and up-to-date records, and making sure everyone who reaches out gets the right information and support.

Beyond the front desk, your presence will help create a calming, welcoming environment for individuals facing life's toughest challenges, including those navigating developmental disabilities, mental health needs, or substance use disorders. You'll handle everyday tasks independently, using sound judgment, patience, and compassion. You'll also keep the lobby neat and inviting, making sure plants are cared for and materials are organized to reflect the respectful, client-centered space we strive to maintain.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN A RECEPTIONIST

What makes someone successful in this role is a friendly, approachable attitude and the ability to communicate clearly with people from all walks of life, especially those experiencing mental health challenges, substance use concerns, or developmental disabilities. A welcoming presence, patience, and a commitment to creating a respectful front office space will help you shine in this role.
