Beginning of Year Schedule:

August 17, 2026: New Hire Orientation

August 17-20, 2026: New Teacher Orientation

August 24-28, 2026: Teacher Days

September 1, 2026: First Day of School

Overview: The special education program support teacher will work with administrators, special education teachers, general education teachers, related service providers, special education aides, parents, community agencies and others to establish effective service delivery for students with disabilities in order to meet individual educational needs.

Responsibilities:

Desired Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Education, Certificates, Licenses and Training):

• A valid teacher or pupil services license from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction in any area of special education.
• At least five years of successful teaching experience in special education instruction and support at any grade level.

Essential Responsibilities and Key Skills/Abilities:

• Demonstrates expertise in effective educational models for special education for EC to age 21
• Demonstrates an understanding of regulations related to IDEA and the 5 step College and Career Ready 5 Step IEP Process
• Demonstrate an understanding of functional behavioral assessments, positive behavior intervention plans and data collection for behavioral improvement
• Understand how to meet the needs of students with various disabilities
• Lead teams through a process to effectively problem-solve around specific concerns with individual students through a root cause analysis
• Demonstrates an understanding of the Comprehensive Special Education Evaluation process
• Collaborate and consult with general and special education personnel to address the needs of students with disabilities, including accepting coaching and modeling when needed
• Facilitate projects toward systemic improvements
• Provide support services to parents related to concerns
• Consult with personnel from community agencies to coordinate services for students within the district, especially students in need of intensive programs, services or transition
• Participate in/facilitate IEP meetings as needed, including serving as a diagnostician and mediator for teams when there are barriers to moving forward
• Provide in-service training to staff related to improving instructional practices
• Demonstrates an understanding of co-teaching practices
• Effectively works with other district leaders and staff to identify effective and efficient instructional practices for students with disabilities
• Support staff with the development and implementation of the IEP under Federal and State regulations as associated with IDEA and District procedures
• Organize the staffing and support IEP development of Extended School Year
• Attend professional development activities for own professional growth
• Attend staff meetings as required
• Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs as required
• Provide support and problem solving to staff around students' functional performance, including executive functioning, emotional regulation, and social skills
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education
